A Mission District tattoo shop owner says he is in the midst of a political firestorm after being mistakenly identified as a Donald Trump supporter.
Political views have turned dangerous for the San Francisco man, who requested to remain anonymous. He said that someone tossed a rock through his store’s window, smashing it.
The business owner has been struggling with vandalism for the month, but said he does not support Trump – his boyfriend does.
Other Bay Area voters are also frustrated. They say they're losing the right to have an opinion, in fear of retaliation.
It “really ticks me off,” said Sharon Fraetis, a Hillary Clinton supporter.
The Lafayette woman was targeted in just the latest in a series of troubling incidents during the final weeks of the 2016 election cycle. Someone pulled down Clinton signs from her house.
And earlier this week, a man was arrested for damaging Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"I'm not at all sad that I did do it,” said the vandalism suspect James Otis. “I decided to admit that I did do it. I'll take the punishment.”
But most voters say they're fed up with the backlash surrounding the likability of a candidate.
“Right now, if somebody says something remotely different - they jump on you like they’re looking for that opportunity,” said Andreas Schobel.

I thought they supported free love. Well when your “gay spouse” prefers Donald Trump, I guess that stops.

This made me laugh, growing up (and still spending the winters) in Palm Springs, CA - I know more than a few gay republicans. Haven’t heard of much vandalism though.

I put a “Hillary for prison 2016” bumper sticker on my car today. Good thing I drive a 14 year old not-worth-much car.
I was looking at new boats today went into the salesman office he had a Trump bumper sticker on his table grab it and said sorry didn’t mean to leave that out in view. lol I said we are deplorables too. LOL. Last week we were at twisted tuna guy and wife walk in they had deplorable tshirt on he said is this table taken? I said this is the deplorable section. LOL
