The California National Guard told the states members of Congress two years ago that the Pentagon was trying to claw back reenlistment bonuses from thousands of soldiers, and even offered a proposal to mitigate the problem, but Congress took no action, according to a senior National Guard official.

And as always, they did nothing until the negative publicity forced them to.
Does not surprise me at all.
CA is dominated by Leftists, I would go so far as to suggest a loft of the congress critters do not mind the action, and no one they know would be affected.
local congress people denying knowledge
But Ryan expedited his oil export deal for his big $$$ donors. Got to get our priorities straight
two possible alternative solutions:
1. let the vets keep the money they earned & “claw back” some of the $100 million moochell is donating to morrocan school girl improvements.
2. let the vets keep the money they earned & “claw back” some of the $900 million obammy has allocated to his ME mosque remodeling efforts
Can’t help but notice that the HEADLINE says ‘CONGRESS’ (as in whole body of Congress) while story states that it was the California Members of Congress that were actually told. LATimes is well known for its ‘impartiality’, right? Congress is GOP controlled but the CA Delegation is Democrat controlled, just a minor point in the days leading to the General Election!
Cruz, Rubio, McInsane, all knew! They did NOTHING!!
Thanks for that info.
Just heard a clip of Carter on radio news.
He’s implying the US Congress is the ones who dropped the ball.
It’s pretty sad when our homosexual Secretary of Defense has the backs of our Troops better than our so called conservative congressmen.
In the mean time Lyin Paul Ryan was busy fully funding Abortion Clinics, Syrian Refugee resettlements in the US AND fully funding ObamaCare.
Turtle McConnell and the RINO quislings in the Senate approved.
Very true, the outrage must have been high as they are rescinding it. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3485094/posts
We have a do-nothing Congress, yet, we gave them both houses as they begged to have.
No harm No foul. Congress shouldn’t do anything until the money is demanded back.
If I were running the place, I'd have a Marine escort this asshole out of the building and have the payroll department to cancel permananently, any furture disbursements.
“homosexual Secretary of Defense”
Is that true? Oh well, it doesn’t matter, correct?
No, they’re not rescinding it.
They’re suspending it.
They offered the GIs a bonus to reenlist.
The GIs reenlist and get the bonus.
Then they want the bonus back?
Even Snidely Whiplash wouldn’t do that.
That’s Exactlt right. Now for those who actually repaid the bonus back.
In May, bomb techs working for DOD were told they had to repay haz pay that was part of the offer letter and job listing. This amounted to an additional 25% of their pay.
One already committed suicide over the $100,000 in repayment. His widow received 4K after deductions were made
