Rally both for Trump, against Clinton [Grand Junction, CO deplorables unhappy with their party]
Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ^ | Thursday, October 13, 2016 | Gary Harmon

About 100 supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump waved signs on First Street on Thursday and chanted, “Lock her up!” in front of Democratic campaign headquarters.

...

The “Deplorables,” led by Matt Patterson, who was to head up the Trump campaign in Mesa County for the national Republican Party, said local officials discouraged the “Women for Trump” rally on Thursday.

This thread is a follow-up to yesterday's thread about pre-rally reporting.

The article linked to here is from the local paper. Here is a contemporaneous story from the website of one of the local TV stations, which reports on the same event:

Mesa County Deplorables rally downtown

I stopped by the rally because I was wondering if this was 1) a parody group (which we've had trouble with in the past), 2) a disgruntled individual or 3) a big chunk of the local Republicans. It was #3. I knew about half of the attendees, who were the usual people who attend Republican events. The ones I didn't recognize—many with homemade and printed Trump signs—were probably members of the public who saw yesterday's announcement of the event on local TV.

The local party executive board has stated on multiple occasions that they are absolutely opposed to having a real primary and, at a recent public hearing, were IMO grasping at straws trying to defend the scandalous and unrepresentative process that Ted Cruz exploited. I have heard mutterings from them that they "support the nominee." But I don't trust them an inch; and it sounds like people still in the party (I am not) are having trouble with them.

Their sign spelling and grammar is deplorable and the newspaper made sure to get those signs in a photo. I wonder if those two signs were plants.

I saw a fake Tea Party interview once where they had a liberal just a little away from a real Tea Party. First they showed the real Tea Party, then acted like "let's stop at this one" at the end and of course the liberal acted crazy with a crazy sign.

It’s the biggest on the Western Slope with Montrose and Delta down the street. Trump will also be in Colorado Springs the same day.

Thanks.

Do you know if the Republicans are posting poll watchers, or reviewing voter rolls?

1) Yes and 2) probably not.

Several years after I moved here and bought a house, the previous owners of the house were still registered voters at my address. I asked the county clerk about this and she said that, unfortunately, state law prohibits clean-up of voter registration rolls. Only the people whose registration is obsolete can delete their registration.

Several years ago there was a big ruckus about this kind of thing. Some out-of-state chapter of Common Cause barged in and blocked the practice of cleaning up voter registrations that were obviously obsolete.
