The newest move comes amid a bloody anti-drug crackdown.
Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to sign a new law that would ban smoking, nationwide, in public places -- parks, bus and train stations and even in vehicles.
Duterte championed a similar measure is his previous job, as mayor of Davao City.
Health Secretary, Paulyn Ubial, said that Duterte is likely to sign the order in October.

"There will be no smoking in public places anymore, whether indoor or outdoor," said Ubial. "Parks, bus stations, and even in vehicles. All these are considered public places."
During his campaign for president, Duterte also floated an alcohol ban in public places.
"If you do not have a house, then do not drink," Duterte said.
The new smoking ban comes amid a large-scale national crackdown on drugs that has taken place since Duterte's inauguration in late June. Extrajudicial violence combined with police action has claimed at least 1,000 lives in the crackdown. Duterte has openly mused that he could be the new Hitler.
"If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have...," Duterte said in a press conference, then paused and pointed to himself.
"Hitler massacred 3 million Jews ... there's 3 million drug addicts. There are. I'd be happy to slaughter them," Duterte said.
His rhetoric combined with his desire for a more independent foreign policy has frayed ties with Washington. Duterte announced an upcoming trip, with 250 Filipino business executives, to China Tuesday.
"China has repeatedly invited me. I have accepted the offer," Duterte told reporters, announcing the visit scheduled for October 19-21.
No public drunks causing problems. No smoking. No drugs. See, he’s not all bad.
Now he’s gone too far!
Everybody (almost) likes dead drug dealers but a smoking/drinking ban will lead to a yuge refugee crisis.
Put me down for 2 of them.
How Hitler of him.
So he’s leaving for a visit to China. Perhaps they won’t let him back in? It’d be like a Woody Allen movie!
I don't see how they'll be able to enforce it. Not enough police to go around.
"AND DOWN!!! It's over, all over for El Presidente!"
Stop the revolution, I want to get off?
Hillary would like him.
no drinkin, smoking, or drugs in PI?? ya right...
lol
Philippine trains VILL RUN ON TIME!
What a card!
Well, at least unlike American vice warriors, he’s consistent. Alcohol, cigs, drugs — ban it all.
Ha, fitting, indeed! Too bad it ain’t...
Next thing, 32 oz. Big Gulps.
And still at least half the PI is head over heels in love with “Dear Duterte.”
If we wondered what it looked like for a country to fall for a Fuhrer, we should wonder no more. This is not going to end well for the Philippines.
Any fines and Filipinos would revolt.
Nah, they’d just be found to have “resisted arrest violently” and will not be heard from again.
