Dave might actually agree with that -- if he has any self-knowledge at all.
On his earlier TV shows, he showed an intense self-hatred. Maybe success made him more conceited.

I’ve written before that someone close to me worked for him for 20 years. He was ok for the first ten and then went crazy (senile, is the word he used) in the last ten. Blamed a left-wing producer for influencing him. Ended up hating him.
