Russia's lower house of parliament ratified on Friday an agreement with Syria that authorizes the deployment of a Russian air group at the Hmeimim airbase for an indefinite period of time.

The Hmeymim airbase agreement was signed in Damascus on August 26, 2015, and was submitted to the State Duma for ratification in the beginning of August, 2016. The document was approved by 446 State Duma lawmakers.

I see this as similar to our troop deployment in South Korea. If the bad guys attack, we aren’t there to “beat them”. We are there to die and to thereby justify massive response.

Will Obama attack the airbase? It will be the equivalent of declaring war on Russia. That’s why the Russians did this. It’s not forward positioning. It’s “I dare you to kill these guys”.

I’m not a big study on this conflict by any means. All I know is we need to defeat ISIS.

So please correct me if I’m wrong ...

Russia’s united and we are divided.

ISIS did better until Russia flew in. So in order to take down the Syrian government, we need to also defeat ISIS at the same time and a united Russia at the same time?

Gee, Obama is racking up quite an alliance against him.

What a ‘brilliant’ commander-in-chief.

It’s more of a debate than we had in our Congress to send our troops over there.

Hillary had better break out the old reset button. It was so effective the last time she used it.

Now let me get this straight — we want ISIS out. But in Obama’s mind the government of Syria is just as evil as ISIS, right?

ISIS is radical Islam while the government is more secular as I understand it.

So Obama is interested in killing off the government while Russia views the Syrian government as a useful ally against ISIS.

Does that about sum it up?

Russia wants secular government. Russia supports the Syrian government.
Obama wants the Caliphate. Obama supports ISIS.

It’s quite obvious.

In this case, who would you propose to receive our “massive” Response? RUSSIA? Over Syria??No way.

ROFL!

You got that right!

Putin hates Islamic radicals. He’s gaining respect in Europe because of it. To some he’s like a ‘rock star’.

It is clear that prior to Russia’s involvement ISIS was having a field day while Obama floundered. I don’t know if Obama smirked while he waved his arms around impotently but sure could imagine it.

If Obama escalates this he will NOT have the US behind him. He would be out on a limb.

Once people understand that the Syrian government is secular, that’s all she wrote. No support. Defuding the action. Etc.

If this does escalate, it will end only one way...

Here’s the Syrian conflict in a nutshell:

For years, Syria has been a Soviet/Russian client state. The Assad family has had close ties with Russia. The Russians supply most of Europe’s natural gas through several pipelines.

The Saudis haven’t really marketed their natural gas, but now would like to. Their natural market is Europe, and the best way to move gas is by pipeline. In order to run a pipeline to Europe, the Saudis have to run it through Syria. The Russians don’t want that pipeline run because they want to keep their monopoly on natural gas supplies to Europe.

The Saudis know Assad will not assent to the pipeline across Syrian territory to please Russia, so to get the pipeline for the Saudis, Assad has to go. So the Saudis, with our knowledge and support, gin up the “uprising” against Assad to topple his regime. Part of the uprising is the creation of ISIS, which like most of Frankenstein’s monsters, gets a life of its own and goes out of control. The Russians prop up Assad in the uprising to block the Saudi pipeline. The Saudis double down by having us come in to do their fighting for them.

Our opposition to ISIS is only token; we are really being prodded by the Saudis to act against Assad. The Russians are putting their people there to checkmate our move. So we’re just being played for suckers in a money deal between the Russians and Saudis. And that’s the Syria deal.

Russia negotiates for better deals while Obama is clueless with Kerry.

I meant the opposite. If the US bombs the airbase, and thereby bombs the Russian military, Putin may feel justified on the international stage at massively responding to us. Talk of tactical nukes has been mentioned.

And while I think Obama may be stupid enough to bomb the Russian military at the airbase, I think if Putin were to retaliate with tactical nukes, I think Obama would just surrender (meaning: stop fighting in Syria).

That would have longterm repercussions for how the world sees the US.

Gottya!! totally agree. There are those like McCain , who met with Isis in Syria to plot against the constitutional government there, that would actually want a full blown war over this. I don’t care what happens there. I am more focused in cleaning out the terrorist ,like the bloods and crips, in Chicago.
