Hurricane Matthew grew into a powerful Category 5 storm late Friday as it crossed the Caribbean Sea on a course that could have it pounding Jamaica within days.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center called it the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic since Felix in 2007.
Matthew's center was projected to reach Jamaica on Monday. Evan Thompson, director of the National Meteorological Service, said the first effects of the storm may be felt as early as Saturday.
"We do consider it serious," Thompson said. "We are all on high alert."

A potentially new opportunity for the Clinton Foundation to move in and “help” Jamaica. The State department can award tons of aid money. Does Kerry have a foundation, I think his daughter does. Beware the grifters.

Not to worry. The Clinton Foundation will be there in the aftermath at Jamaica to pick up the pieces. /s

Something more serious to consider is it headed for an almost direct hit on Gitmo. The projected path is just west of the bay so the worst part of the storm will hit Gitmo as it is projected right now. Pray for our troops, nevermnd the uninvited guests.

This hurricane is baffling the experts as model runs (1-3 days out) have been inaccurate as a persistent WSW continues for now along with "blowing up" all the sudden into a 4/5.
Anyone living in the south should keep an eye on this storm. There has been speculation that FL's panhandle/West Coast/Keys could be in play the farther W this storm goes. Huge storm and has been unpredictable.

FWIW, I just did a quick check of Hurricane Katrina's formation. She was a storm that had a weird formation, erratic path, and wreaked great damage. Katrina formed north of where this storm formed, and then had that odd wobbly path.
I hope this monster veers far east. Even with that, it seems chaos might happen.

Since it’s October, hurricane season is about over. We get the big ones in August and September.

Forward speed slowing down a bit, perhaps the start of a northern turn (Still has a slight WSW direction), cone has widen a bit for the 5 day forecast.

Hugo was around October 8, 1990. Destroyed half the roofs in S. Carolina and went as far inland as Charlotte, NC.
