MEXICO CITY, Sept 24 (Reuters) – A fire broke out on an oil tanker of Mexican state oil company Pemex in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday, forcing all the crew to be evacuated in the latest accident to plague the struggling firm.

My frigate was anchored in Catania Bay, Sicily in 1979 when the refinery caught on fire. Now THAT was a fire.
USNS Mississinewa (T-AO-144) was taking on Navy Distillate and JP-5 at the refinery pier. We had the anchor at short stay in preparation to go in and drag the Mississinewa away when the handful of civilians still on board at the time managed to, literally, cut the mooring lines and back out into the harbor and drop anchor. I say 'drag' because tow would have been far too graceful for what we were getting ready to do to save the tanker.
We were roughly 2000 yards from shore and you could feel the radiated heat.
