Good question and I don’t think we’d like the answer. It does appear that NOTHING is going to get in THEIR way. And “THEIR” encompasses a whole bunch of people! A bunch of people none of us would want as friends, neighbors, relatives or casual acquaintances. We’re more circumspect in selecting who we associate WITH.

Yes, it’s a preposition but it’s not breaking the law - YET! And by golly, even if it was, it wouldn’t matter!
