China National Chemical Corp. received approval from U.S. national security officials for its takeover of Swiss agrochemical and seeds company Syngenta. This is the biggest regulatory hurdle to the $43 billion acquisition.

In Iowa corn fields, Chinese national's seed theft exposes vulnerability

Along with other farmers in this vast agricultural region, he has upped his vigilance ever since Mo Hailong and six other Chinese nationals were accused by U.S. authorities in 2013 of digging up seeds from Iowa farms and planning to send them back to China.
Payoffs were enough for the CLinton Foundation
and to pay off BOTH Comeys?
The Chinese own Smithfield Foods also.
People would be surprised by how many major US food producers are owned by the Chinese. I didn’t realize it until I started trying to set up partnerships and was directed by the US offices to contact their Chinese headquarters.
Eat your peas.
It would have been easier to go to the feed store and buy whole corn for the ‘chickens”
Dupont took over Pioneer last year.
Sucking the Chinese teat.
A word to the wise - get yourself some HERITAGE SEEDS while
you still can! (”Heritage” is not a company name.)
the seed issues infuriates me.....
As important as heritage seeds are, one thing they can’t do is feed the world.
Global control of grain is one way the US has had so much power. We dump our cheap grain on a small country and once their small grain growing operations crumble, we have them by the balls. (we being the US gov at one time but now the globalists, hell, maybe globalists all along) Look at what Venezuela is missing the most. Staples, corn and flour. Now the chinese are getting into the game? Not good. Really goes to show that the end goal is global communism.
I’ve been into organic gardening, self sufficiency for quite a few years. If you haven’t seen Food Inc, you should. A lot of small farmers have been put out of business by the likes of monsanto and their patented seed.
Control of staples is one way of grabbing guns. If you’re starving, you WILL trade your guns for food. Especially if you have kids.
Funny, even before seeing this thread, I was thinking this morning, I should put my prepper files online. I’ve got GBs of them on every subject. Even if Trump gets in, tptb might, probably will, try to undermine his administration and make a scapegoat out of him.
Growing and processing grain is not an easy thing to do on a small scale. Luckily, wheat kernels store really well although you need a real good grain mill to turn it into flour. The Country Living Grain Mill is about the best but runs around $300. For storing; Mylar bags sealed up with O2 absorbers with the bags being in plastic buckets. Good for 30+ years. Rice can be packed the same way though it doesn’t last quite as long. Need some dry beans to go with the grains to make a complete protein and they store pretty well also.
Hunting to get through hard times won’t work if everyone’s doing it. Can’t seem to get this through my neighbor’s head. The deer and squirrels will be gone in a couple months.
Open Pollinated is another term for Heritage seeds and once upon a time, they did feed the world. Of course there was less people and more game in those days. Heritage aka open pollinated seeds reproduce true to form, unlike hybrids. rareseeds.com is one of the best places to get them as far as variety goes. They’re a small company started here in Missouri. They had open pollinated corn for a long time but I think they had to give up. The gmo seeds are so widespread that they’ve pretty much infiltrated all fields in the US by way of cross pollination via wind. You can also get “survival seed packs” in various places including ebay.
Victory Gardens!
aka Heirloom seeds or open pollinated seeds.
Heritage is used more for animals as in heritage breeds, I think
I grew up on a farm, and farmed for many years, corn, soybeans, raised a quarter million hogs, so I know more than just a little about food production.
The United States is the wealthiest food producing country in the entire world history, and there is plenty to go around.
So much so, that all sorts of old and inefficient ways of raising food for personal consumption can be enjoyed by millions. I think that’s a very, very, good thing.
Just don’t delude yourself, or your neighbors, into thinking that the world can be fed using those methods. It can’t.
And, above all, (not pointing a finger at you) don’t push for food growing legislation that you know nothing about. We could begin to run out of food as a result.
What Venezuela is missing the most? Personal freedom.
They could have overflowing bins of grain if the only had the freedom to raise it the way the markets would direct them to.
This is interesting. Syngenta is being sued by a significant percentage of US corn producers. Apparently they sold a new variety GMO corn seed with the assurance that US corn customers would approve it for use in their countries. China’s approval did not materialize. They found evidence of the new variety in corn that they bought and did not buy any more. This along with the end of the drought, caused the bottom to drop out of the corn market. If the suit is successful, participating farmers may be reimbursed up $1 per bushel, for the market years involved.
You would starve. It is easier to just buy local.
Well given the revolutions of history...it will be more like people using guns to take the food and the means of production back from the crooks....it just takes just the right amount of time and motivation!
Thank you for sharing this.
This is more important in understanding the greater world picture than most people realize.
The day will come when food is the currency for survival.
I’m not a catastrophist, but I am a realist.
The problem with seed sustainability is the instability with today’s hybrid seeds.
Even with alfalfa there are few non hybrids available. Plus, most U.S. seed production is abroad.
I keep a supply of diverse seeds and know the network of seed savers. It’s not about survival but sustained living.
I hate to say it, but we are in trouble no matter who wins the upcoming election. I am absolutely amazed that by printing and spending money, along with cheap imports, manipulation of the cost of living index, and the Fed playing the stock markets and keeping interest rates very low.... our economy did not grow. We have pulled all the tricks out of the bag to prolong the inevitable.. The question is how fast and furious or gentle will be the let down. I pray for a soft landing.
