I went to college in the 1965-69 time period and earned a degree: Bachelor of Science, Journalism, Advertising Sequence.
Back at that time and place, our Journalism professors pounded into us a basic truth: the News-Editorial path was for those who wanted to report facts:who, what, when, where and why in the first paragraph of the news story followed by less important but still factual information.
The Advertising sequence, on the other hand, was for those who preferred to use their creative talents in helping sell a product or service.
Well, today's 'news reporting' is not about reporting facts: news-editorial journalism has been totally bought and paid for by the globalists who want the world to buy a very specific set of ideas.
So,like it or not, Major Garrett and his cronies have never been about reporting facts, they have been engaged in a co-originated effort to sell ideas:Hillary good, Trump evil, etc.
Mr. Trump,being the astute businessman and recognizer of talent that he is, merely used the media to sell a service--his new hotel, by baiting them with what they thought was an opportunity to move their agenda forward.
