I dropped Wells Fargo about eight years ago because they were a Center of Incompetence. One of the mistakes they made was to open up a charge card account for me without my knowledge or consent. It took months of nagging on my part to get it deleted. They never stole any money from me and for the life of the account, it had no transactions; but why it was created and why it was so hard to get rid of were mysteries they could not explain.

That’s what is described in the article. They had a bunch of employees on quota for how many new accounts they could open. Some customers got credit cards with yearly fees or lost money in other ways - all without their knowledge of the new accounts.
