Middle-class Americans and the poor enjoyed their best year of economic improvement in decades in 2015, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday, a spike that broke a years-long streak of disappointment for American workers but did not fully repair the damage inflicted by the Great Recession.
Real median household income was $56,500 in 2015, the bureau reported, up from $53,700 in 2014. That 5.2 percent increase was the largest, in percentage terms, recorded by the bureau since it began tracking median income statistics in the 1960s.
In addition, the poverty rate fell by 1.2 percentage points, the steepest decline since 1968. There were 43.1 million Americans in poverty on the year, 3.5 million fewer than in 2014. The share of Americans who lack health insurance continued a years-long decline, falling 1.3 percentage points, to 9.1 percent.
A combination of forces fueled the gains, including an improving job market, low inflation and rising wages, particularly for low-earning workers who may have benefited from state and local initiatives to boost minimum wages.

If this is the case, its because income growth has been so pathetic the last 7 years.
Oh, yeah. And pigs fly!
So did prices and expenses.
This is meaningless.
I can’t find comparable *disposable* income statistics anywhere LOL!
Making more but having less is not a good thing.
Who believes the Washington Post?
Getting excited that in 8 years you got the median income up < 1500 not adjusted for inflation???? Median household income, adjusted for inflation is still below where it was when this guy took office.
My wife got her review and raise last week... 1.6%... I know hardly anyone who’s seen above 2.5% in years, short of changing jobs.
You are right. And if we were all doing so well, where are the headlines about EBT enrollment going down, fewer apply for free (you name it).
Color me jaded, but I don’t believe a f’n word of this.
I hardly know anyone whose gross income has increased in the past 6-7 years AT ALL. Changing jobs is often not an option.
What a coincidence. This appears just as the Hillabeast’s laughable health conditions are finally being exposed.
Not buying it, WaPo.
By next month, these phony numbers wi be 25% higher...for the lucky 62% who are are working in the feeble Obama economy. The 92.000,000 not
working have “quit looking for work” according to the Liars Dept., formerly the Labor Dept.
IT’s ####ING GREAT OUT THERE!!!!
Wife took 10k pay cut from “in demand” field this year, AFTER i refused to let her take 25k cut and made her sweat it out.
The companies are hiring newbies for nothing, until they #### everything up. Then they grudgingly hire the pros.
I got no raise this year.
I TELL YA THE WA POST IS RIGHT. THINGS ARE A ROCKING!!!
GTF out of here, Post.
Wow! Let me check my W-2.
Oh, wait. I forgot. I’m unemployed.
More of these “Best Economy Ever!” as the election nears.
such obviously propagandaBS it puts Soviet Pravda to shame!
Must be that $2,500.00 EACH of us is keeping thanks to 0bamacare!
*SPIT*
Eight months into 2016, now this report comes out.
Sure thing, what a crock of #$@!
Anything to get the Terminally Illery across the finish line.
BS.....................
The Ministry of Propaganda goes into high gear for the election - the median is the average - what this really reflects is the growing “income inequality” which progressives ordinarily condemn under other circumstances - the very large increase in income encountered by all those with money in the stock market, especially at higher earning levels, resulting from the market bubble in turn brought on by artificially low interest rates - the really great thing is that when the market crashes finally in a year or two and that average income goes down, the lefties will be able to blame it on the then current president and Obama can have totally clean hands.....
Here we go, spectacular economic news right before the election.
