In an interview Monday on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Donald Trump predicted the upcoming presidential debates would be “very unfair,” and suggested doing away with moderators entirely. “Let Hillary and I sit there and just debate,” he said.
Trump pointed to criticism of NBC’s Matt Lauer for his role as moderator of the network’s Commander-in-Chief forum last week. “They’re saying about how Matt Lauer was nice … he wasn’t nice to me, he was tough on me,” Trump said. “Everyone saying he was soft on Trump. Well, now the new person is going to try and be really hard on Trump just to show the establishment what he can do. I think it’s really unfair.”

I think he needs to hijack the debate right there on live TV. Announce the format change right there and tell the mods, they get to select the topic Trump and Hillary will debate.

You know, this is the era of jobs being done away with by robots. We don’t need those stinking biased MSM hacks. Let people submit questions on Facebook or something and have the candidates answer them. All they need is a college footbal ref with a whistle to make sure Hillary doesn’t try to steal all the time for herself. Or cough on Trump.

Do away with the “moderators” and bring in UFC referees. That’s the kind of debate I want to see.
Art of the Deal in action: Push for no moderators as his initial position - eventually work toward what he wants, a change of moderators that works in his favor.
Allow a moderator picked by each candidate. They can alternate questions.
I would make sure every newspaper and electronic medium in the country had the list before the debate started. And I would ensure that the moderators agreed to my stipulations or I'd simply refuse to attend, on the grounds that I'm not going to serve as ratings fodder for your network while you destroy my campaign.
I watched the entire Commander in Chief forum last week. I thought Matt Lauer appeared to be trying to save Hillary from herself and her own horrible performance when he interrupted her, told her to answer quickly, and the other things about which her supporters were whining.
In contrast, Lauer was rude and combative and just happened to have a 3-year-old tweet at the ready when interviewing Donald Trump. The difference was Trump spoke right over him and got his message to the audience.
I believe most of the announced debate moderators will behave as Lauer did, and while ardent Trump supporters won’t be swayed by them, I don’t know how the undecideds will see things.

Exactly. All they need is a reader—a non-journalist. How did the gerbalists come to monopolize these debates anyway?—reading the same questions addressed to both participants, and s/he keeps time too but otherwise zips it.

With the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and computers that can out-think chess masters, couldn’t computers/robots be programmed to be moderators?
