Now, a group of data scientists, journalists and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs is seeking to upend that reporting tradition, providing detailed projections of who is winning at any given time on Election Day in key swing states, and updating the information in real time from dawn to dusk.

The plan is likely to cause a stir among those involved in reporting election results and in political circles, who worry about both accuracy and an adverse effect on how people vote. Previous early calls in presidential races have prompted congressional inquiries.

I can imagine what kind of tomfoolery they can perform with this "new" twist. There are going to be all kinds of "firsts" relating to the next election. Just you wait.

This is what led to Gore/Bush winding up in the Supreme Court.

The networks said Gore was way ahead, affecting turnout in the western precincts of the panhandle. Bush won, but just barely, and after the hanging chad counting farce and the Supreme Court case. He would have won cleanly if the networks hadn’t projected his loss while the polls were still open.

The hanging chad mess then brought us electronic voting machines, which screw up the audit trail and will always be potentially hackable. “What matters is who counts the votes.”

I’m thinking that The Basket of Deplorables should get some insurance in the form of a website where they can tally their vote to counter any cheating that is going on.

What could go wrong????? Sounds like a perfect setup for all sorts of shenanigans from biased exit polls, biased models, to outright hacking.
