Inside Bill Clinton’s nearly $18 million job as ‘honorary chancellor’ of a for-profit college

The guest list for a private State Department dinner on higher-education policy was taking shape when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered a suggestion.

In addition to recommending invitations for leaders from a community college and a church-funded institution, Clinton wanted a representative from a for-profit college company called Laureate International Universities, which, she explained in an email to her chief of staff that was released last year, was “the fastest growing college network in the world.”

There was another reason Clinton favored setting a seat aside for Laureate at the August 2009 event: The company was started by a businessman, Doug Becker, “who Bill likes a lot,” the secretary wrote, referring to her husband, the former president.

Nine months later, Laureate signed Bill Clinton to a lucrative deal as a consultant and “honorary chancellor,” paying him $17.6 million over five years until the contract ended in 2015 as Hillary Clinton launched her campaign for president. . .

Bill Clinton had two responsibilities, as ‘Honorary’ Chairman of Laureate University: Nothing, and Next-to-Nothing.

I’ve noticed the MSM and the Clinton’s seem to have backed off of Trump University.

Didn’t Chelsea also have a job paying a lot where she basically did nothing?

Probably not $18 million tho.

What a scam - honorary title and pay for access to inside Clinton connections. If that doesn’t work, there’s always speaking fees...

They may have backed off the issue of Trump University but on the news tonight they were attacking his making a $25,000 (I believe) contribution to Pam Bondi from his Corporation. Reporter said Trump admitted it was an error and “claims to have” reimbursed the Corporation.

I am sure they will be issuing a statement soon on all the payments to and from the Clinton Foundation. /s/

It’s just astounding to peek into the reasoning of HRCs’ supporters on the comments on that article. “There’s no proof” she lied. “There’s no proof” she exchanged favors for CF “contributions” in the form of $500K+ speeches by BJC. What are they looking for, receipts? Signed purchase orders? There’s apparently no pile of evidence high enough to dislodge them from their total admiration for this woman who has accomplished little other than assisting in setting much of the rest of the world on fire.

If the government would just give us all jobs like that, we’d have this poverty/unemployment thing licked. I think I could manage the duties of that job just fine, and I could probably subsist on the salary, too.

I’m surprised, because the glass house issue never stopped them before. Never even slowed them down. For example, they vilify the rich, and what are they? Projection has never been a problem for them in the past.

The MSM and Clintons claim that the $55mm from USAID (a branch of the State Dept.) and from the State Dept. directly, went to the International Youth Foundation (IYF), a charity, not to Laureate, a for-profit company. However, Douglas Becker is chairman of the board of IYF and Chairman of Laureate.
http://www.iyfnet.org/board-of-directors
So - how could money from a charity go to a for-profit company?
Easy - IYF’s main stated objective is EDUCATION.
http://www.iyfnet.org/education-employment
So once the Clinton cash from State gets to the IYF, they are free to use it to make loans or grants to students at Laureate. The most effective way to do this is through online courses, because the marginal cost of an online course is ZERO. The IYF might never have given grants to students to take online courses at Laureate, because they are under a microscope now. But that was likely the plan. And even an in-person course has low marginal cost once it is set up, so the $18mm to Clinton could easily be paid back with the profit from $55mm in tuition assistance. There was no other way the payments to Clinton could be justified, he was a part-time consultant. The Clintons should be in jail.
The other way to get the IYF money to Laureate is simply to offer “tuition” grants for courses that have very low cost (and are worthless to the student). They could make a $20,000 grant to someone to take a course at Laureate that meets once a week for 2 months for one hour. The cost of that course to Laureate is practically zero, lets assume its $2,000. So they just inflate the price of the course and pay for it with IYF money - baked-in profit.

Chelsea worked for NBC at $600,000 a year. Here’s link to a mocking WP story:
