Germany's far-right AfD unseats Angela Merkel's party in key regional vote

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats fell to third place in a state election on Sunday behind the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) and anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, TV exit polls showed.

In a stinging defeat for Merkel one year ahead of parliamentary elections, the upstart AfD won 21 percent of the vote in their first election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state by campaigning hard against the chancellor's policies on refugees, according to an exit poll by the ARD TV network.

Indeed. Although "far right" seems an odd way for the headline to label people who oppose mass immigration of people who have no intent to assimilate.

Brexit... the rise of nationalists in many European countries... Trump's impending victory (and I am starting to see this as a near-certainty).

I think western people have just about had enough of governments that do not represent their interests.

France votes in 2017 also. Both of these national elections will be to some degree a reaction to the US presidential election this November. The funny thing about it is, Hillary! may be the globalist, be the European reaction to her will be more severe.

Poland and Hungary are the countries to watch, Spain and to a lesser degree Italy also bear watching.
