That is true but the reason is seldom spending on the military but rather when the electorate discover that they can elect fiscally irresponsible who will create any and all welfare state spending programs that tickle the ignorant ears of greedy voters and successfully solicit their votes. The officeholders who will spend obscene amounts of money on economically ridiculous programs by borrowing the necessary funds and piling it on the old gummint credit card will, for the same reasons as their spending lunacy, refuse to raise taxes to fund their spending schemes.

The goal (and a generally successful one so far but the train wreck draws nigh) is to convince a willfully gullible public that money grows on trees and that wild spending politicians control all the trees. A program for plush retirement homes in the Carribean for every "deserving" American? No problem! It will be a new entitlement as well as Rolls Royces or Ferraris for each of us. It is only $$$$$. Vote for me and I'll set you free!!!! (of economic reality, that is).

I moved to rural NW Illinois in 2000 from Connecticut and my Congressman here was a four term veteran conservative named Don Manzullo. A mild-mannered unassuming guy with a very solid conservative voting record in all respects. He made a politically fatal mistake in 2011 when, shortly after Congress raised the debt "limit" yet again to accommodate the spending schemes of Obozo and virtually the entire Congress, Manzullo e-mailed Speaker Boehner during the Christmas break, asking that he convene the House during the break and pass a resolution telling Obozo then and there (and, of course, his fellow Congress members) that there would be NO MORE INCREASES in the debt "limit" so long as Obozo continued to be POTUS.

Boehner then got together with Majority Leader Cantor and Whip Kevin McCarthy, contacted a bunch of Texas contractors, brought in $600,000 to fund the worst campaign of campaign lies I have ever witnessed against Manzullo (in a district IL-16 seldom contested). They moved the spineless and unprincipled freshman weasel Adam Kinzinger into IL-16 from Chicagoland and purged Manzullo for his effrontery. It is because our legislature is run by the Boehners, Hasterts, Ryans and other useless, corrupted, compromised whores in service to the US Chamber of Crony Commerce that our nation will meet its demise and soon.

The military portion of the federal budget has been in constant decline for decades. We should spend what is necessary to fund a military second to none and miles ahead of whatever is in second place and not a penny more than what is necessary. That can be a substantially increased percentage of federal budget dollars IF we slash enough pork. At the beginning of the Vietnam War (and of Lyndon Johnson's disastrous "War on Poverty"), the US spent about 60% of its annual budget on the military and 40% on everything else. Today, we probably spend 15% or less on the military.

For what we spend on the military, we get fast attack subs, nuclear missile subs, nuclear missiles, a fleet of thoroughly modern aircraft carriers to project air power wherever needed, further research on space based weapons, modern bombers (B-52s are an awesome weapons system but the newest are more than 60 years old) and modern fighter planes and tanks. We are sadly lacking in manpower with the number of personnel LOWER than at the dangerously low levels of the Great Depression.

Obozo imagines that the most important military issues are things like how many patriots can be purged from the officer and top enlisted ranks and replaced with how many dedicated slaves of the weirdo-American and anti-American "communities," how many pregnant women (teach them to be straight!) can be put in jeopardy on the front lines in battle, how many weapons systems can be scrapped and how many of our enemies can be released how soon from Gitmo so that they can get back to killing American military personnel bogged down in bureaucratic rules many years after they should have promptly crushed the enemy and been brought straight home.

Bring Marine Corps General Jim "Mad Dog" Mattis out of retirement (65 years old now), make him Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and give him license to do whatever needs doing.

“We could fix the nation using the First Amendment if we’d just do it.”

I agree. The massive Tea Party rallies of several years back, were the best response to fedzilla that middle America has ever produced.

Had those rallies continued to grow in frequency, number, and size, Obama would have been a one term president, and we’d now have a very different Congress. Most of the horrors that have risen out of that man’s maladministration would never have come to pass.

The proof of how effective that 1st Amendment movement was, is in how the Obama regime responded to it. They used the power of the federal government to suppress it out of existence.

I can remember when the big rallies began to peter out. It was at the precise moment that they should have been increasing. I knew in my gut, at that time, that something terrible had happened. The people hadn’t lost their fervor. Millions had already ‘gotten off the couch’. So how did it all fall apart so suddenly?

The movement was murdered, with malice aforethought, by the regime in power and their fellow travelers in the establishment.

Yes, they silenced our collective voice, but all they accomplished was a temporary return to business as usual. They did nothing to address the grievances of tens of millions of citizens. Worse, they actually doubled down on the very policies which created the grievances in the first place. Even at this late date, they continue to pour salt in our wounds and seem determined to cement a final, and terminal lock on their unconstitutional power over the people.

At this moment, the people are showing up in the tens of thousands to show their support for a man whom they’ve invested all of their hopes in, to be that person who can take the helm in Washington, and reverse all of the destructive policies that have brought us to our knees.

If The Powers That Be refuse to allow our civil mechanisms to function as designed, and use their influence and power to deny the people of the choice at the ballot box, there WILL be repercussions, and they’ll be much more dramatic than peaceful rallies in the park.

I'll tell you exactly how the movement petered out, brother Dawg. It was a combination of the lame stream media playing the race card, and the success of the 2010 elections. On one hand, nothing scares conservatives like the R-word, and when the spitting non-incident happened at the C(r)apitol steps, too many TPers got scared because they were being called racists.

Then, as we always seem to do after a huge victory, we simply went to sleep after the butt whuppin' the 'Rats took in 2010. We always do it. We assume the Left has learned its lesson, and we can go back to our golf game and stock portfolio. Nothing is further from the truth...Leftists are like ants, always plotting, always scheming, always working for victory. We're stupid, lazy and cowardly, and go back to sleep after each big win.

2009 and 2010 gave me some hope that our Republic might have a chance, but since then, it's been back to long, slow, painful death spiral.

BTW, did you feel the quake this morning?

I can’t argue with your analysis. No doubt, you and I have only discussed a small number of the factors which were responsible for the demise of the Tea Party.

Let us not fail to acknowledge, though, the fighting fervor that still exists. It won us a record number of races nationwide in 2014, and put a real fear in the Democrat camp.

If it weren’t for the fact that they still hold the Executive branch, they’d already be in the political wilderness. It’s why Trump is such an existential threat to them.

He will not only take the most powerful of the three branches away from them - he’ll use the office to upend the carefully constructed order of business in Washington - and bring fundamental reforms across the land that hurt their cronies and partners in crime.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. We were supposed to have been given a false choice between two globalist pukes - just like the last time. But God smiled on us, and gave us a straight shooting, non-politician, to be our champion. And just listen to the caterwauling and gnashing of teeth on the other side. It’s like a symphonic cacophony of sheer terror. What delicious tears they have.

.

I heard about the Oklahoma quake this morning, but we didn’t feel a thing out here in east Dallas County. I hear some folks in Dallas proper felt it.

“I do think we’re pretty much doomed no matter who wins, but the short term will be a lot better with trump.”

I agree. Best Trump can do is slow the descent to give more people time to prepare.

Glenn Beck downward spiral started way before he lost his mind about Trump...

His nevertrump position just accelerated the downward flight path from a glide to a death spiral...

He basically became unlistenable about three years ago..

Only a twelve year could listen for more than five minutes...

I'm in Irving...actually felt the floor shaking, about 30 seconds, so I knew it wasn't a truck going by. But it was so faint, if I'd been up and moving I wouldn't have felt it at all.

I hope you're right, Windy. I hope that fighting spirit is still with us. I do believe Trump is going to win in a 1980-ish landslide, but I worry that we'll do as we always do, and just go back to sleep. Winning an election is only the start of the work...and there'll be a lot of heavy lifting to do if we're going to roll back damn near 100 years of Communism. I'll be happy if we can pay attention long enough just to roll back the last 8!

Later, brother Dawg...

I read an article recently that had great insight.
We have to pray and trust God that He is trying to help the United States, despite many of us shunning Him.
We have to trust that Trump is the best bet. After all, it is the cards that we are dealt now.
We know the evil that will prevail under Hillary. The LGBT will advance rapidly. Guns will be severely curtailed. Open speech will be reigned in. The Economy will shrink. Debt will soar. Christians will be attacked, with Hillary wielding the IRS to do it. SOTUS will be lost to the Left for a generation. (Consider if she nominated Obama for a seat on the Supreme Court).
Yet Beck is willing to try to convince his followers to support Cruz, and nothing else, thus helping Hillary.
