Minimum Wage Claims Its Latest Victims - Ashley Furniture Slashes 840 Jobs In California
ZeroHedge.com ^ | Aug 28, 2016 | Tyler Durden

A few weeks back we pointed out a couple of the reasons that businesses are fleeing California by the 1,000's ("3 Simple Charts That Help Explain Why 9,000 Businesses Have Left California In Just 7 Years"). Clearly the implementation of a State-wide $15 minimum wage hasn't helped "lure" business owners.

On Friday, Ashley Furniture's 840 employees working in the company's production and warehouse facility in Colton, California became the latest victims of California's minimum wage hike. Ashley announced they would be leaving open their retail store in Colton, but would be relocating the production facility that accounts for most of the location's jobs. Per the San Bernadino Sun, Ashley Furniture released the following statements about the closure:

We thank our employees for all their hard work, but closing these plants on Oct. 25 and rebalancing our manufacturing mix strengthens production capability and cost structure and will help ensure Ashley’s continued ability to compete effectively long-term in the global marketplace from a U.S. base.

The majority of production in Colton will move to U.S. plants in Wisconsin, Mississippi and North Carolina.

By shifting the majority of Colton production to other U.S. facilities we will create more efficiency and better use of existing capacity in our manufacturing network.

Good. There needs to be consequences for stupidity in this country. It’s somehow been lost in the never ending push towards utopia.

People are figuring out that you shouldn't let liberals run things because they dont understand the concepts of truth or reality.

The government does not have the right to set a minimum or maximum hourly rate of pay.

I say we demand 500 an hour!

Then a part timer will earn half a million a year and everyone will be happy.

And if a business can’t pay this happiness wage, then they should shut down!

Whew...what a relief! Had we not seen this exit it would have meant that all of recorded history would have been reversed and we would have had to rewrite all of the economic textbooks on the planet. Now we can just chalk it up to liberal stupidity.

“That Jerry Brown and the legislature are f’ing geniuses....NOT!”

It looks like Gov. MedFly and the kooks in the California legislature effectively adjusted these workers’ minimum wage from $15 to $0/hour.

Perhaps they need to seek advice from Presidente Maduro of Venezuela.

The minimum wage is always $0, no legislation will ever change that.

That’s ok. They will make it all back on the railroad to nowhere.

It doesn't matter what they have a right to do, it's whether we let them get away with it. And we've let them get away with it.

So what're we gonna do about it?

Good. There needs to be consequences for stupidity in this country. It’s somehow been lost in the never ending push towards utopia.

The problem is that liberals don't see it as their own stupidity. Look at Florida. It is awash with liberals from NY and NJ who ruined the economies of their former home states by voting for liberal politicians who then implemented the usual idiotic plunder and squander policies of socialists everywhere - kill that goose that lays the golden eggs. But THEY CONTINUE TO VOTE LIBERAL now befouling their new home with liberal ideas.

Likewise liberal politicians are too arrogant, stupid and ignorant to see the fallacies of their actions. When their policies fail to achieve their promises (and they ALWAYS fail and usually make things worse) the politicians say "We just didn't go far enough." And I think some of them actually believe that. Liberal logic: when an action causes a problem doing more of that action will make the problem go away and actually reverse the problem. The rest of us think when you're in a hole stop digging.

Unfortunately people are not not figuring this out. You want proof? The current turd in the white hut won a second term when his policies, arrogance, stupidity, incompetence, dishonesty, militant ignorance, hatred for freedom, contempt for the law and the constitution, etc. were well known.

I'm not so sure.

In today's political climate, it wouldn't surprise me to see a Democrat governor or a liberal judge decide that layoffs due to minimum-wage costs are no longer allowed.

Whew! I guess reality has that certain way of whacking folks upside the head.

I wonder how many of those joining the ranks of the unemployed voted democrat. Of those I wonder how many are actually thinking "this is my fault. I voted for Democrats whose policies caused this plant closing." I'd be will to bet almost none of those who voted democrat are blaming themselves. They're blaming the "greedy owners and management" thinking just as they've been taught to think by the liberal hegemony. They have only themselves to blame and they're just not going to do that.
