My dad, a stalwart conservative Republican, used to warn me that Democrats would start wars. What he could well have added, is STUPID wars.

Seems like it is split but in terms of magnitude I think the RAT Party reigns supreme, until the Mooselimbs attacked America on 911 and GEB responded.

Republican Gerald Ford sent troops to Angola.
Democrat Jimmy Carter sent troops to Iran (on a small mission that failed). Republican Ronald Reagan sent troops to Grenada and Nicaragua.
Republican George Bush Sr. sent troops to Iraq and Panama.
Democrat Bill Clinton sent troops to Haiti, Somalia, and the former Yugoslavia.
Republican George Bush Jr. sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

9/11 boosted the GOP quotient of military involvement, to be sure. My dad died during Reagan’s reign.

I’d call the 9/11 answer by GWB a war that might have been for a good reason, but had some fatal premises folded into it. The standard template for a US conquest was to make the conquered territory into a democracy. That works fine in the Western world or even the far East (because of faiths, if not Christian, then of Buddhism and similar pacifist philosophies). But for an Islamic people? They need a stern monarchy. A democracy suits them like a bicycle suits a fish.
