We tend to think that suffering something horrible enough ensures going to heaven, or doing something horrible enough ensures going to hell.
But the bible backs up neither notion.
What it does say is that each of us is doomed unless we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior, an offer that is made without partiality to the entire world but that God already knows many will refuse.
Things like this don’t happen so that we can console ourselves that we are somehow in a class of less-evil humanity. Among other things, they serve as a warning about how far evil desires to go if it is given its way. The way the story reads, the family wasn’t even bent on murder until they had gotten well into the debauchery.
Albuquerque is a weird place. I have encountered some very odd spiritual warfare there.
