Acura? C'mon it's the Bay Area. It's a Porsche 911. OG's wouldn't be caught dead in an Acura.

Unless they were caught dead in an Acura.

Because the name was changed from something else long after the neighborhood changed.

Why doe MLK Blvd invariably run through some of the worst areas of a city?

Like others say, it's a warning to beware. I have another daughter just moved to Des Moines recently, in a neighborhood that is getting gentrified near downtown. Pretty nice and going upscale. But go 6 blocks down and you run into MLK. Follow that another 6 blocks or more away from downtown and start seeing black faces everywhere, with run down homes. Needless to say, I stay away from MLK when visiting Des Moines.

Because the name was changed from something else long after the neighborhood changed.

According to Wikipedia, "Grove Street, which stretched for several miles north from Downtown Oakland into North Berkeley, was renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Way in 1984. The street had once represented the dividing line between neighborhoods where minorities could and could not live or buy property."

A SF Chronicle article states: "During the 1950s and '60s the street served as a de facto color line, with minorities living on one side and whites on the other."
