Bogan Villa (SP?) are extremely thorny. As are many other hedges and shrubbery that the city actually encourages you to plant/grow.....
FYI - Bougainvillea
Pyracantha is the very best thing to plant outside windows and as hedges. Tough stems and extremely sharp inch-long thorns. Nobody tries twice to get through it.
