Taking on the media is a deflection tool when things are failing. We may not all agree on Trump’s problems or even if he is having problems. But we can agree on disliking and distrusting the media. Things may not be going well. Change the subject and blame the media.

Rush you need to shut the hell up. Trump does not need your help.

Wow. Only 21 comments in a Rush thread. Is there another one? If not, Rush’s influence is diminishing.

First point this hour is interesting. Why Pennsylvania if she is so far ahead?

YES, Trump is RIGHT. YES, the media is LYING -— and they are, in fact, doing everything possible to make sure that the Democrat wins in November. YES, the press has been biased for a long time -— but it is far more insidious now. Google “Trump needs to stay on message” and you will get more than 20-milion results. Every news outlet and venue is represented. Their bottom line is that Trump is an idiot who is losing his own race because he can’t even campaign right -— and they are LYING. Trump is, in fact, running against Hillary, and Obama, and their liberal/progressive agenda, but you would never know it if you only listen to what the media chooses to report. Trump speaks for an hour, about every issue and topic on the minds of Americans -— and the press looks for one 10-second soundbite they can pull out, twist, and repeat ad nauseum, into their latest hysterical headline. And there are a lot of words to pick from in an hour long speech, especially since Trump is not as “polished” as a *politician* is supposed to be. Note to media: Trump isn’t a politician, and that’s why people like him. So now, they have settled on a focused attack of the man instead of just an attack on his words, an ad hominem meme they themselves have created -— that Trump is damaging himself, shooting himself in the foot, because they will NOT report the substance of his message that is there for all who wish to see. And by attacking the man himself, they mean to destroy HIM along with his message. The media long knives are out for Trump -— pray that they destroy themselves instead of this good man!!!

Being house bound today I have listened to the almost three hours of Rush. I am still listening because he has been informative and back on track with attitude. He talked about the anti Trump Republicans who have apparently just gotten around to the truth which people on this forum have known since get go. They have nowhere to go if Trump is defeated. More, but I would add that the Republican party as they have known it will no longer exist. Win or lose, Trump has revealed the Republican leadership as being actively working to destroy Donald Trump and thereby delivering this Republic to the socialist democrat party to destroy. Either the Republican party leadership and their confederates immediately start working their asses off to help Trump win this election or the party that has been their livelihood will be only an empty bldg with empty desks.

I know it’s kind of sad to see. Not only no separate daily thread, but can’t generate interest whatsoever.

I admit to being guilty of not participating for several months, due to what I believed was RL’s lack of Trump support. I’m not saying I believe he outright bashed DJT, but I don’t think he helped him when he could have at an earlier time.

It’s really either/or, for/against. Rush, not calling out the nevertrumpers, (I believe) has run ppl away. IDK.

Please allow me to add to your excellent observation & analysis:

Trump is talking to crowds of thousands, several times each day, for hours every day.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital....Hillary is helped onto a small podium where she addresses a tiny group of devout followers for ten minutes, is asked no questions, and quickly departs with her aides (medical assistant).

I certainly agree that Trump should avoid sounding like a whiner with respect to the media; but that does not mean he can ignore them. They have gone after him with an intensity unlike anything I have ever seen before.

The specific issues about Hillary's character & lack of qualifications & about the differences between Trump policy & Hillary's policy, need to be pressed--to be sure. And that does not mean trying to cover the entire water-front in any one speech. But Hillary needs to be a daily subject.

At the same time, a separate approach to the press is essential. Again, it should never sound whiny. I would recommend Trump handle it in a series of fireside type speeches--half hours on various channels & internet vehicles. Start each with two or three different smears drawn from the most obvious attacks, each briefly stated, followed by carefully explained factual analysis--delivered without bombast, in a fatherly tone;--one making the case by offering a quiet battery of facts which demonstrate the lies being employed--but made all the more dramatic in contrast to the way he attacks Hillary & the Dems, by being carefully understated.

Let me be explicit. Properly handled the understatement, where the facts leave the viewer to feel the rage Donald Trump will be containing as he quietly demonstrates the points, is the key to the success of the tactic.

If anyone is not clear what I am suggesting, I will be happy to enlarge on the mental & rhetorical processes involved. Basically what he would be doing, is demonstrating sweet reasonableness by his tone & understatements, while unmasking the full level of deceit being used against him. If Hollywood were not so biased against us, there are plenty out there who regularly use this approach conceptually in all sorts of situations, that dictate the desired emotional reaction.

“sweet reasonableness”

I think we’re way past that point in time.

You are never past that point, if you are trying to maximize your vote. We need, of course, to make sure that we win. But the effectiveness of what follows will depend in large part on the scope of that victory.

There are people who will rally to Trump because he shares their outrage. There are others who will rally to Trump because they do not want Mrs. Clinton. There are still others, however, who will hold back--maybe not even vote--because the media has scared them off. There is where the "sweet reasonableness" can literally add millions to the vote; particularly where coupled with the fatherly tone, and a step by step analysis of how really unsupportable was each of the smears selected to make the point.

Oh, totally agreed!!.... and he can never let up on the press because that is like blood in the water, but his response needs to be measured and informed and also balanced with the differences in himself and hilLIARy.

When he goes after the press he needs written or videoed evidence of their lies and distortions, not just name-calling and tantrums. HE must be the grown up. MUST be.

Yes. He needs to take a specific smear--one at a time;-- quietly recount what they tried to say about him; and very calmly and fatherly explain the specific misrepresentations, carefully and logically countered with the specific relevant facts; remaining always calm, fatherly, yet firm in the truth.

The fun winging it, should be saved for issues, where that is tactically the way to go. Both facets have their place. But with the mass media--as opposed to the outrageous behavior of Clinton/Obama;--you have always to be aware that much of the public does not yet realize what liars they are. We have to educate on that. (Yes the public mistrusts them, but nowhere near the full extent that they deserve. We need the rapier not the bludgeon.)
