Commercial structures in downtown Lower Lake and residences were in flames Sunday afternoon as the Clayton fire exploded, forcing thousands of people to flee homes and abandon businesses.
By 5 p.m. flames had engulfed numerous commercial buildings in Lower Lake along Main Street, including the towns post office, a tire store, a funeral home and restaurants, despite the combined efforts of firefighters, water tankers and helicopters.
State Sen. Mike McGuire, who was on the fire lines Sunday with the Lake County Sheriffs Office, saw the blaze burn down into Lower Lake on Sunday afternoon.
Lower Lake may be completely lost, he said by phone.

If anyone can give me Cal Fire Air live it would be appreciated.
(musing) ...and I thought it was something back in the day when the Cuyahoga River caught fire.
The Clear Lake area has been getting devastated by brush fires.
Are you living near the fire danger area?
Few, if any, controlled burns, limited agriculture, ranching down (predation bad), horribly overgrown. Just a tinder box.
That manzanita brush is explosive.
No clues as to the state?
Not far from there, but safe. I can see the smoke clearly. Last year we sat on a mountain and watched the Valley Fire eat things up. The night sky was well lit. If not for the devastation and fear it wrought, it was actually beautiful. I know quite a few in the area of this one. These things can move fast and eat you up. Last year, a good friend of mine had a 26 year old son make a scary run out of Middletown (similar to that youtube video). To hear him on the phone, panicked, in shock, crying, it was very upsetting. Hadn’t heard or seen anything like it since the Marine Corps. Folks don’t realize, these things are nothing to mess with. Keep these folks in your prayers.
Sorry. CA

Added California as a topic, although everyone knows Lake County is in Ohio.
Thanks.
If you look at this map, as of 1900hr 14 Aug they were trying to establish a line along Dam Rd between Lower Lake and Clear Lake.
Saw the smoke cloud from Sebastopol, 30 mi. SW. Looks nasty. Arson investigation underway for two smaller fires set earlier in the same area.
Praying for all in fire’s way.
