This policy is ridiculous, but standardized tests have their role. Without them, every parent is told their children are geniuses by teachers with a vested interest in promulgating the lie; standardized tests let parents sift through the BS and see how their children really stack up.

When you work with ‘hoodrats with COLLEGE DEGREES that are functional illiterates, you’ll understand the appeal of a test that would stop that charade in its tracks...

When will people ever learn to homeschool or send their kids to a private school? Government-run indoctrination centers are a failure to everyone.

We also need good, conservative American patriots to run for their local school boards to fight this garbage at the ground level

The (Lakeland, FL) Ledger did a poll on this and 2 to 1, folks are against holding the kids back.

Kids work all year, get good grades and because they don't take a stupid test at the end of the year, they're held back?

That's like telling a PGA tour pro that because you didn't win the Tour Championship final tournament, you have to give the money you've won during the year, back.

That this is happening in Florida is not entirely a surprise, given that the Sunshine State was the leader, under Bush as governor, of test-based accountability systems that made standardized test scores the most important measure of student achievement and school success.

What a stupid way to judge what a child knows, Jebby! Lots of children are terrible test takers. They get so anxious that they don't score anywhere near their ability. Day to day performance is a much better indicator.

Leave it to the Jebster to be a part of the exact wrong thing.

What argument can there be for not taking a test? Anyone? What’s the harm in taking a test?

I have been retired for two years now, but during my last year there was close to open rebellion from parents. At least three weeks were taken out of the school year for various tests. Many parents did not permit their children to take one of the tests they found out was an optional one.

Parents: sue the bloomers off them and chase those needless administrators and that superintendent out of the state!

It’s past time that parents take their children out of the corrupt government indoctrination centers at every level. In this case, it’s REALLY “for the children.” The main goal of government schools is to stamp out any trace of individualism in our youth, so they become the docile worker bees, filling the coffers of their masters in the government with most of their paychecks. That is not the “land of the free and the home of the brave” envisioned by the Founders.

Standardized tests have their place, but the question at the core of the issue is who is developing the standards?

High school students taking the ACT or SAT in order to gain admittance to a college and increase their financial aid package often must answer questions the way the testing firms want, rather than according to their what they have learned from their families or from their faith. Not so much in Math and Language, but once they are tested in the sciences, the liberal bias really comes out.

Just look at the textbooks. Evolution over creation, big government over personal responsibility, green energy over the industrialized revolution....

Conservative minded students must suppress their knowledge and beliefs to “succeed” at the left’s game.

When parents who really are in control of their child’s education confront the school boards and refuse standardized tests as a measure of the kids progress, the all controlling powers, offended that someone would challenge their “authority”, point to some obscure fine print and attempt to make a student repeat 3rd grade.

Yeah. I have also seen “honor students” who were illiterate.

Testing isn’t perfect. Class grades aren’t perfect.

This test case will be interesting
