“Whites are going to have to start going back to church “

In this day and age, that might not even be helpful. Churches aren’t churches any more; they’re entertainment centers without any depth. If you’re talking about going back to a church from the ‘50s or ‘60s, then... yeah.

Re your "70 year itch"... you don't consider the events of the '60's (starting less than 20 years after the end of WW2) an "upheaval"?

The events of the 60s were instigated by the Soviets as part of the cold war. None dare call it treason.

I have been calling this the Esau Generation. They are selling their birthright for a "mess of pottage."

Believing the Father of Lies, they are content to ravage the work of generations for instant gratification. I think Isaiah 5:20-21 says it best:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!

The entire chapter describes this time of iniquity.

This is where the fourth turning book comes in. Their 80 year cycle is decomposed into four 20 year "generations" with different but specific characteristics for each. After the crisis is a 20 year quiet period followed by a generation that is more iconoclastic, pushing boundaries and limits. Think the gay 90s after the civil war, or the 60s hippies. But it's not an existential crisis.

Anyway it's just a social theory; I thought the book was thought provoking and I see parallels in the real world but there's confirmation bias at play as well; if you look hard enough you can refute it as easily as you can confirm it.

The Esau part is right but it isn’t a generation that just happened, it is a ‘nation’/’kingdom’ as prophesied.

The Ishmael ‘nation’/’kingdom’ and the Esau ‘nation’/’kingdom’ are merging. That means time is *very* short.

Williams hits the sad bullseye here, but frankly, it's one most of us could hit blindfolded:

Customs, traditions, moral values and rules of etiquette are behavioral norms, transmitted mostly by example, word of mouth and religious teachings. As such, they represent a body of wisdom distilled through the ages by experience and trial and error.

The nation's liberals -- along with the education establishment, pseudo-intellectuals and the courts -- have waged war on traditions, customs and moral values. Many people have been counseled to believe that there are no moral absolutes.

Instead, what's moral or immoral is a matter of personal convenience, personal opinion, what feels good or what is or is not criminal.

We no longer condemn or shame self-destructive and rude behavior, such as out-of-wedlock pregnancies, dependency, cheating and lying.

Yes, we reward the un-virtuous and rebels.

Instead this culture shame the good, virgins, the discerning, the traditional, the sentimental, independence, virtue, those leery and intolerant of evil, and the Godly (see Tim Tebow.)

Our culture is demonically possessed and damned.

"Leave It To Beaver" was real!

Yes it was! It was pretty much my childhood/neighborhood memories.

In many places here (NY), they're totally closing down.

I don’t believe anything “just happens.” Everything happens for a reason, according to His plan. I used Esau for the reason that the same spirit inhabits his descendants in this time. Blood may build a nation, but belief unites people in the spiritual realm.

As patriarchs of evil, Esau and Ishmael are certainly leaders of the nations who follow their sinful paths. The sheer scale of the falling away during my lifetime shows the spiritual nature of the conflict. While petty men work their schemes, the devil’s princes look to devour the earth.

The times of trouble are certainly coming, but He never abandons the remnant. Of course, that doesn’t mean we get off scott-free as some teach.

Those whom He loves; He chastises.
