Even if Trump loses this year, this trend could carry Cruz or Rubio to the WH next time around.

If Hillary wins, there will be no next time.

And that means, before long, the Democrats will — once again — have to find a new core constituency.

And that's why they're importing jihadists oops, refugees.

this makes me very optimistic. Even if Trump loses this year, this trend could carry Cruz or Rubio to the WH next time around.

HOLY SHIT, HOW DEPRESSING THAT YOU ARE ON THE FREE REPUBLIC AND THINK THAT IS A GOOD THING?

This is just more PC "Mexicans are the new Italians," and a stealth propaganda piece for liberalizing our immigration policy (i.e. "Let's open the borders, those wonderful Mexicans with their family values will vote Republican some day!").

The author forgets that Italians managed to assimilate and get ahead without any bilingual education programs, without "press 2 for Italian," and without diversity quotas at corporations and elite universities.

He also seems to be confusing the more European-influenced "Hispanics" (i.e. the middle class and elites of Latin America) from the Meso-American Indians who make up the bulk of immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

knew we were supplanted!!!

It's called "the myth of the redemptive Hispanic," and it's based on wishful thinking and outright lies, not on facts. If Mexicans and Central Americans were half as wonderful as the GOP establishment's immigration enthusiasts claim they are, Mexico and Central American countries would be the most economically vibrant paradises on Earth rather than the crime and squalor-ridden dumps that they are, and America's border towns would be the most prosperous zip codes in the country rather than the most impoverished.

What he misses is that the Democrats are on to this and that is why Hispanics have become a federally protected class. Set aside government contracts work for Hispanics who just got to America yesterday, and who do not have the ancient prejudice that other minorities experienced. Meaning - what are these set asides for except to right an ancient wrong - so why should a walk-in, who has never been wronged, get this benefit. BECAUSE OF VOTES.

The Hispanic vote is paid for, and they are long term brand buyers, within the family. The Italians and Irish did not have this situation and are not so beholden to any political party.

You have a less cynical take than I, but I agree. Trump’s following isn’t so much about Trump than it is about a spirit and attitude that’s been simmering for years. Trump was merely fortunate, whether by design or luck, to tap into what could become a significant movement.
