North Carolina Church Backs Trump, Campaign Reaches out to Black Voters
ABC News ^ | 8/7/2016 | CANDACE SMITH

Donald Trump's campaign is trying to make inroads with African-Americans, as an ABC News/Washington Post poll finds that just 2 percent of black voters support the businessman in his run for president.

Prominent surrogates including his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, national spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, former "The Apprentice" contestant Omarosa Manigault, and Pastor Mark Burns campaigned today at historically black church Antioch Road to Glory International Ministries in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The church is now publicly supporting Trump, hosting a town hall today billed as "A Day of Endorsement."

Donald Trump was not in attendance.

Generally, churches cannot formally endorse a candidate without losing their 501(c)(3) tax exemption, but the church declares on its Facebook page that it is not a 501(c)(3) organization. The grand-daughter of the church’s founder, Katrina Rodgers, is supporting Trump, as are some of the members.

Rodgers told ABC affiliate WSOC-TV that she knows the move isn't popular and the church has already been ridiculed for its stance.

"This is what we feel in our hearts of hearts that is right for us to do so we're moving forward on that," Rodgers said.

Manigault serves at the campaign's director of African-American outreach. Before she joined the team last month, the campaign had no formal coalitions outreach and the candidates has eschewed many traditional means of campaigning to voters of color, declining an invitation from the NAACP to appear at their national convention. He also did not speak to at National Urban League, a venue where other former Republican candidates have appeared.

Lynne Patton, a vice president for the Eric Trump Foundation, which raises money for terminally ill children at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, was also in attendance.

That figure is false.

Black support is above that, if you look at non agenda pollsters. Probably about 12-15%

Liberal media bias has long been an open secret. But now it’s so bad that even a liberal mainstream newspaper notes that, in an effort to destroy Donald Trump, the media have jumped the shark. by Selwyn Duke

I think Dems really shot their wad with the Magic Negro, who did not transform the fate of the average American black person to the better.

Some — most — may continue to zombie vote, but to the rest, the offer of an open door to a more prosperous future will make more sense now that the Dems have tried their best and been found wanting.

Come on. Tass can’t be wrong. :)

Christie got 25 percent of the black vote.

SURELY Trump can do as well or better than Christie did in NJ!!!

I’ve was tweeting with a black DJ the other day who is behind him.

A bunch of rappers have came out to support him but the powers that be made them change their tune REAL FAST.

That’s a shame.

the church declares on its Facebook page that it is not a 501(c)(3) organization

I wonder how common is this? Churches are generally 501(c)(3) without needing a determination letter, and I'd assume most would want to take advantage of that. The choice is between helping to pay for The Agenda vs. shutting up about it.

I guess if you get robbed, then you get the right to complain about it too.

Dems had the congress and obama at one point and he did nothing for them.

WE had Bush and the congress at one point and they did nothing for US.

501(c)(3) only matters if:

1) You itemize deductions, which most taxpayers do not.

2) You itemize deductions and are audited.

It is mostly irrelevant.

I didn’t know Diamond and Silk could sing :)
They were pretty good.

Is Bill Clinton’s zero tolerance three strikes (three felonies) and you are out (life sentence) still in the books? that caused havoc to the black communities I think, It should be emphasized.

The video is no longer playing at the ABC site, but here it is on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_SY0Dnm704

Skip along to the good parts: Speakers include Omarosa Manigault preaching, Pastor Mark Burns preaching, Lara (Mrs Eric) Trump campaigning, Lynne Patton, a vice president for the Eric Trump Foundation, and Diamond & Silk singing the hymn that Hillary murdered in a black church a few years ago (”I ain’t no ways tired”).
