Why Are Voters So Angry?
City Journal ^ | Summer 2016 | Myron Magnet

Posted on 08/05/2016 10:24:30 AM PDT by TADSLOS

Haunting this year’s presidential contest is the sense that the U.S. government no longer belongs to the people and no longer represents them. And this uneasy feeling is not misplaced. It reflects the real state of affairs.

We have lost the government we learned about in civics class, with its democratic election of representatives to do the voters’ will in framing laws, which the president vows to execute faithfully, unless the Supreme Court rules them unconstitutional. That small government of limited powers that the Founders designed, hedged with checks and balances, hasn’t operated for a century. All its parts still have their old names and appear to be carrying out their old functions. But in fact, a new kind of government has grown up inside the old structure, like those parasites hatched in another organism that grow by eating up their host from within, until the adult creature bursts out of the host’s carcass. This transformation is not an evolution but a usurpation.

What has now largely displaced the Founders’ government is what’s called the Administrative State—a transformation premeditated by its main architect, Woodrow Wilson. The thin-skinned, self-righteous college-professor president, who thought himself enlightened far beyond the citizenry, dismissed the Declaration of Independence’s inalienable rights as so much outmoded “nonsense,” and he rejected the Founders’ clunky constitutional machinery as obsolete. (See “It’s Not Your Founding Fathers’ Republic Any More,” Summer 2014.) What a modern country needed, he said, was a “living constitution” that would keep pace with the fast-changing times by continual, Darwinian adaptation, as he called it, effected by federal courts acting as a permanent constitutional convention.

Why are voters so angry ???? That’s easy. Because Washington is corrupt and incompetent. Not a good combo :)

Because both parties have done everything they could to prevent the citizens from stopping the illegal alien inundation and have refused to uphold the rule of law.

Hate to tell you, but a significant part of the Country would cheer if D.C suddenly disappeared.

More than a few around here are rooting for Iran to do us a favor and just nuke them already.

I keep getting called angry, but anger isn’t really what’s going on.

I’m being analytical.

The leadership we’ve had and the directions they’ve taken have been abysmal. To do more of the same is to beat my head against the brick wall expecting a different result.

These folks haven’t had just one chance; they’ve had a two or three DECADES of chances.

They have utterly failed.

Therefore, any finally sane analysis would say CHANGE the leadership. The most important position is at the top, and then work your way down.

Personally, I think I could randomly select about 600 people from my contiguous rural counties and have better leadership than we have in the administration, congress, and judiciary.

Not anger. I’m an analytical realist.

Angry? Anger was trancended quite some years ago.

We have lost the government we learned about in civics

Our state-run schools have not taught 'civics' for a long time. It has become more important to teach how to put on a condom.

"America’s highest-income counties are in the suburbs that house Washington’s recession-proof functionaries."

I found this excerpt to be most telling. It's not a failing on the part of government to follow the will of the people. It's a deliberate plan of action for control that has been sytematically carried over for the past century.

We want to be left alone. Quit trying to manage every aspect of our lives. What we say, do, have - and then taxing us on everything we own or do. Back off NOW!
Cornered people can be dangerous.

That’s an outrageous thing to say!

Russia is much preferable.

The Democrats have figured out how to pay themselves without the need for tax money.

This has taken away the power of the Congress.

We are in deep trouble.

Many answers ... because our government has divided us; because our government doesn’t care about the people anymore; because our government isn’t doing the job we hired them to do ...

Shall I go on?
