In what has emerged as the latest scandal involving Donald Trump, the presidential candidate on Friday retracted a statement that he had seen a video on TV of a plane carrying $400 million in cash to Iran, money which as the WSJ reported earlier this week was allegedly made as a ransom payment to free 4 US hostages held by Iran. The statement was a rare reversal of comments he made on the campaign trail earlier this week.
The plane I saw on television was the hostage plane in Geneva, Switzerland, not the plane carrying $400 million in cash going to Iran! Trump tweeted.

However, as the Washington Examiner notes, after those comments, the Trump campaign told The Washington Post that the tape Mr. Trump had seen was b-roll footage thats been labeled as American hostages landing in Geneva in January after being released from prison. But Mr. Trump said again Thursday in Maine that he guessed the footage was of the money transfer.

So Trump did what he has rarely done before: he backed down.
* * *
And then, just as Trump was retracting his claims, something curious happened.
Overnight, the BBC reported that a video did indeed exist, referring to a documentary called "The Rules of the Game" which was broadcast on Iranian state TV in February. In the clip, one can see shots of an airport are accompanied by commentary which references 17 January in Tehran's Mehrabad Airport.
Specifically, the video shows a loaded crate, partially blurred out, which allegedly shows the money in question.

We’re reacting, and it’s killing us.
He saw a different video and acknowleged it- that does not change THAT A VIDEO OF OBAMA’s HOSTAGE PAYMENT EXISTS
Why is it a scandal?
Isn’t the cash money transfer what needs explaining? That’s not in doubt. Whether Trump saw the video clip before or after his initial statement is not a “lastest scandal.”
It’s amazing, Donald Trump’s misstatement about the plane carrying $400 million of our taxpayer dollars is bigger news than the ransom.

So Trump saying something is a scandal, and the government paying ransom to Iran which will fund terrorism is not?
This country has lost its mind.
We have become the land of hysterical lying lunatics.
Yes, why is this a scandal! Trump supporters had better start defending Mr. Trump against this witch-hunting.
Why did Trump claim to have seen a video that he had not seen?
At least he’s capable of admitting his mistakes, unlike Hillary who can’t tell the truth even when it would benefit her.............
I agree. This isn’t a disaster for Trump. It is actually a vindication. At any note, THIS IS NOT A SCANDAL FOR TRUMP. It is a testament to the Muslim President’s attempts to fund disciples of his own personal religion. A effing Muslim pure bred and real.
That makes zero sense.
Obviously this story is not a negative for Trump at all.
And the DNC fixing the primaries is eclipsed by “The Russians did it to help Trump!”
It was a simple mistake, not an outright Hillary-type lie. But it really makes no difference. This sort of carelessness on Trump's part is going to sink him. And that breaks my heart.
If Trump loses this election, there will be no turning back. There will be no more Republican presidents. Mass immigration and government hand-outs will see to that.
Ah, "weakness" and "scandal" when Trump makes a mistake. Whn Clinton makes a "mistake" (lies) it's not "weakness" or "scandal." It's IGNORED.
In this article, ZeroHedge made several mistakes. They are WEAK.
Because the press assigns labels in order to justify their odd sense of curiosity. On CNN, one of the hosts claimed that Trump's error overshadows the fact that the payment was made. I kid you not.
When you have a media that will go all out to protect Hillary, they will magnify every little mistake Trump makes. He has to know that.
The paying of ransom should be the story, but instead they will talk about Trump.
That's ridiculous! But, I believe you.
My wife remarked that if she had read a novel 20 years ago based on this year's election dialogue, she would have laughed it off as a comedy.
