Fed Boss Faked Illness For Six Months While Starting Biker Store(VA Admin)

A top benefits appeals manager at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) didn’t show up for work for six months but kept cashing his federal paycheck as he opened and operated a motorcycle apparel and accessories business.

Robert Gingell was paid $140,000 a year by VA throughout the time he claimed he was sick or working from home. He retired in September 2015 after being caught but was subjected to no punishment or restitution. He now operates Renegade Classics Northern Virginia in Manassas, Va., part of a nationwide chain of outlets that specializes in clothing and gear that appeals to Harley-Davidson owners.

Gingell was a GS-15 civil servant — the highest paid General Schedule category — serving as a Supervisory Administrative Service Manager at the Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA). The BVA hears appeals from veterans whose claims have been denied.

Records show Gingell’s store was incorporated in December 2014, and he created a Facebook page the same month claiming the business was “coming soon.”

An unpublished VA Inspector General (IG) report obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation said “time and attendance records reflected that [Gingell] was on sick leave more than 22 weeks between January and August 2015.”

Disgusted. Must have a big "D" in the voter registrar's office records. And some people wonder why folks are fed up with the elites in both parties? Then again, since the guy retired no sense in following up on the issue. WHAT!

If laws applied to everyone fairly this creep would be in prison along Hillary, Obozo and a thousand or so others.

A lot of good vets are bikers.

When this gets out, this pos might be broke/closing his business very quickly.

I have often thought that it is suspicious that the Democrat voting part of Virginia is the northern part in the Washington DC suburbs. I think that the Democrats control most of the government bureaucracy. It is not 50/50 and the Democrats don’t give a care about the civil service laws. Come to think of it, do they care about any kind of laws? To them laws are only made to be broken to their advantage.

How can outrages and lawless bevavior such as this happen, with no consequences to the perpetrator????

He was discovered, but, there will apparently be no consequences.

Don’t think that others aren’t seeing this happen, and plotting their own ways of getting a fat paycheck but not having to show up for work.

No surprise at all.

I have seen similar on smaller scales.

A variant that irked me was that there was this woman who blatantly ran a home retail operation from her desk and no one in charge cared. Her boss was mine too.

One day a guy called me and wanted to discuss a freelance photo job. It was a quick call and we agreed to talk later. I got a chewing out for daring to engage in other ventures while on the clock. I hated that fat hypocritical hag.

How old is he? It sounds like a federal employee approaching retirement and trying to cash out unused medical leave, which you are not supposed to do.

They will recover nothing from this guy. There is no case here. Shady yes, but this kind of thing goes on everyday. Now he is an entrepreneur paying taxes into the corrupt system he took advantage of.

Which part was the embezzlement of public funds? The $140k a year for pushing papers? The 22 weeks of sick leave without having to actually be sick? The retirement and lifetime pay? The lifetime medical coverage?

I’d say all of the above. I find it hard to justify any government employee earning more than twice the average household income for the area they serve, and absolutely believe all benefits should be fully paid for during their employment and included as part of the calculation for twice the average household earnings. Oh, wait, did I miss the two months of vacation and two weeks of paid holidays?

Good point.

Off topic, but I remember election night 2006, when George Allen was up for re-election to the senate. Northern Virginia jurisdictions were the last ones to report their election results. Allen was leading in the vote count up until the very end on election night. Then, when the Northern Virginia jurisdictions started reporting, then suddenly Allen lost his re-election.

The same thing happened in the 2013 Virginia governor election, between Ken Cucinelli(sp?) and Clintonista Terry McAuliffe. IN that election also, Cucinelli had a narrow lead all night, but the northern Virginia returns were reported last. When they reported, McAuliffe won a razor thin victory as governor.

I know, off topic, but they really should have everyone report their vote totals at the same time, and without knowing what the vote totals from other parts of the state show. Clearly these two elections noted above were manipulated so that the Democrat would win.

I’ve known several people who were running “on the side” businesses from their desks when they were supposed to be doing their day jobs. Also known a number of people who did very well in graduate school, thanks to being able to devote an inordinate amount of on the clock time to their studies instead of their jobs.

Government jobs just appeal to lefties more. I’d rather rise or fall on my own initiative than kiss bureaucrat butt hoping to score a nice pension after a few decades.

" they really should have everyone report their vote totals at the same time, and without knowing what the vote totals from other parts of the state show."

I've been screaming this for year because every year Seattle comes in last, and even though the pub will be leading and leading well, somehow, Seattle finds just enough ballots..on the floor, in a desk..in a car...or "filed" wrongly".....

what I do is NOT send my ballot in til the last day...last minute....

if they don't know how a group of voters vote they can't very well "fix" things on election night....

at this point, are our elections even legit?...probably not...

but maybe our local ones have yet to be shafted...

FYI -

The owner’s of Renegade Classic’s in Richmond, VA are GREAT people and I cannot recommend them more highly.........

so I don’t think this should be associated with the Renegade Classics franchise........
