Obama: Even Israel says Iran deal was a success

U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday said the nuclear deal signed between Iran and the West had been successful, and said that even Israel acknowledges this fact.

The comments by Obama were made during a press briefing at the Pentagon, which largely focused on the report that Washington paid $400 million to Iran. Obama denied at the briefing that the money was ransom for the return of Americans who were held in Tehran.

But he also addressed the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic, saying, according to RealClearPolitics, “It has been well over a year since the agreement with Iran to stop its nuclear program was signed. And by all accounts it has worked exactly the way we said it was going to work.”

“You will recall that there were all these horror stories about how Iran was going to cheat, and this wasn't going to work, and Iran was going to get $150 billion to finance terrorism and all these kinds of scenarios. And none of them have come to pass,” continued Obama.

“And it's not just the assessment of our intelligence community. It's the assessment of the Israeli military and intelligence community,” he stressed. “The country that was most opposed to this deal (ie. Israel -ed.) that acknowledges this has been a game-changer that Iran has abided by the deal that they no longer have the sort of short term breakout capacity that would allow them to develop nuclear weapons.”

Obama's comments are not the first time that an American official has quoted Israeli security officials in justifying the nuclear deal.

He was apparently referring to comments by the IDF Chief of Staff at the Institute for National Security Studies’ annual conference in Tel Aviv, where he said that although the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers contained “many risks,” it also featured "opportunities" for Israel.

Despite Israel's initial objection to the Iran nuclear deal, Netanyahu reportedly informed Washington that his speech at the UN General Assembly in October of 2015 was the end of his public fight...

How come Obama and Hilary question whether we should trust Donald Trump with Nuclear Weapons, but they have no problem trusting Iran with Nuclear Weapons?

So Obama finally admits (backhandedly) the deal will allow long term nuclear weapons capacity...

That assessment will probably change immediately following Iran’s nuclear attack on Tel Aviv.

Obama is incapable of truth - at least when speaking to us infidels. How absolutely pathetic he is - and the greatest embarrassment ever elected in this nation’s history

OBAmmy’s Iran deal manifesto relegated their nukes obtaining plans from the big leagues to the status of a JV team. Whatever the fraud says is usually the opposite.

Any delay gives Israel more time to sabotage the operation with the assistance of an advocate in the Whitehouse instead of the current occupant.

Yes, the President lies. Like both his Secretarie's of State. The lifted quote is accurate, but as you'll note from a better article on the IDF Chief's comments, that is a short term assessment. He's clear that in the long term, 15 years, the threat of an Iranian nuclear weapon will have to be dealt with. Iran's long term desire is to become a regional powerhouse. In the shorter term, the greatest threat to Israel is Hizbollah. Financed by Iran, now flush with cash thanks to the administration. Followed by Iran's attempt to establish itself in the Sinai, as well as further radicalize Arabs in Israel. And ISIS, which he feels can be stopped in the Sinai, though will be more difficult in Syria. A success, not at all. Financing Israel's short term adversaries, absolutely. Did it buy some time for Israel, deferring actions which should have been undertaken as far back at the GWB administration to destroy Iran's nuclear capability. Probably. It's entirely possible that Obama's actions may have put off a regional war for a decade. And Obama, by taking Iran's side, has brought Israel closer to many of the Gulf states. Also targets of Iran's future aggression.

It's entirely possible that Obama's actions may have put off a regional war for a decade.

That depends almost entirely on the US policy in following up the deal.

With the present adminstration the Iranians are well aware that they can press ahead - which they are doing with their ballistic missiles. If the next 4 years will see a new Clinton adminstration then there is not going to be anything to stop the mullahs to carry on with their nuclear project.

True, though I doubt either Israel or the Gulf States count on the US for support. Even moral support. And while they may go right back to their nuclear option, they’ve a long world view. They’re into reestablishing a Caliphate, run by Shia, not winning one of two four year terms. Fomenting regional turmoil might well be a better option for the next few years, or until they’ve spent their reward money.
