Did Paul Ryan just predict that Clinton will win in a landslide?

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) sent an urgent fundraising appeal Thursday evening that warned: “If we fail to protect our majority in Congress, we could be handing President Hillary Clinton a blank check.”

Whether or not it was intentional, the phrase “blank check” has a political echo — one that suggests a deep fear by congressional Republicans that a sinking presidential candidate could take their majorities in the House and Senate with him, and that they are getting ready to desert him.

It goes back 20 years, to an infamous chapter in internecine Republican politics. In the weeks before the 1996 presidential election, as it became clearer and clearer that GOP nominee Bob Dole would not defeat incumbent president Bill Clinton, Republican operatives began urging their struggling congressional candidates to begin making the argument: “Let’s not give Clinton a blank check.”

In late October of that year, the National Republican Congressional Committee spent $4 million on television ads in 50 congressional districts where races were close. The final shot was of a blank check hovering over the Capitol dome. It was signed: “American taxpayer.”

For Dole, the implication that even his own party had given up on him was a devastating blow.

One of Dole’s top strategists that year was Paul Manafort, who is now Trump’s campaign chairman. Dole’s personal assistant was Michael Glassner, who has worked for Trump’s campaign for more than a year. A number of other Dole staffers now work for Trump.

Ryan used the words “blank check” at least three times Thursday, as Trump sat below Clinton in the polls and continued to deal with the aftermath of controversies of his own making. This week, Trump refused to endorse Ryan in the Wisconsin Republican primary and praised Ryan’s underdog opponent, Paul Nehlen...

I would highly doubt it was a coincidence, and Paul Ryan is probably extra salty because Trump refused to endorse him. Too bad. Paul Ryan has been backhanding Trump every chance he gets. I'm so glad Trump praised Nehlen. I don't care what Pence, Gingrich, etc. have to say.

Paul Ryan being interviewed on WTAQ:

When asked whether there would ever be a point at which he would abandon Trump, Ryan said of his endorsement: “None of these things are ever blank checks.”

Paul Nehlen was on it:

It's up to WI-01, next Tuesday, 9 August, Nagasaki Day.

Nuke his disloyal ass!

Vote Nehlen!

I used to be a big fan of Ryan, but no longer!

Paul Ryan's principles are of no significance if they have any chance of electing Clinton!

Anyone that is still a registered republican after this election is a fool.

Anyone who fails to vote for Donald J Trump in this election is a sub-human.

Paul Ryan is an Obama collaborator along with Boehner and McConnell and a good many other Republican congressmen. They need to go. If the GOP can’t beat this lying un-American grifter, it needs to die as a psrty.

Another pre-planned piece of agitation propaganda from the establishment. Does anyone REALLY pick up on the use of such a common phrase like that and IMMEDIATELY tie it to a campaign from 20 years ago?

Nope. The media undoubtedly worked with Ryan to get a tweak in.

Garbage journalism. And these people blast the National Enquirer for being yellow.

And RNC Chairman Reince Priebus was furious why Donald Trump didn’t endorse Paul Ryan against challenger Paul Nehlen, why should he?

Reince is best friends with Ryan.

However, Reince should have gotten Ryan in line and told him to stop making backhanded digs at Trump and help unite the party. He didn’t, and this is the result.

Seems Ryan forgets that recent OMNIBUS spending bill ... aka Obama "blank check."

For someone who speaks "return to regular order" - he speaks with "forked tongue" whenever he engages his mouth.

Vote Hehlen!

Nothing from this chucklehead would surprise me. Ryan doesn’t have the political life-expectancy of a housefly.

Award to you for outing AGITPROP! I’ve never seen more desperation and a wholesale conspiracy by the MSM to bring down a campaign in my life. The desperation is so palpable and the fact people are actually treating the language as anything but pure fraud is not surprising. Virtualy anything coming out of the MSM right now you can treat as fraud. Even their rare valid pieces are intended to suggest balanced reporting but they are to prop up their overwhelming push for misrepresentation and outright fraudulent reporting.

What principles? He is a Quisling. Do not be surprised when President Trump takes office that the are enough GOPe in Congress switch parties so that he doesn’t have a majority to work with.

What is wrong with the comprehension capability of the WaPo writers?

Ryan was saying if HE himself was defeated, Dem opponent will probably take his seat (against the new comer). Hence Republicans lose the majority in the House.

Therefore, if a president Hillary has control of either Senate or House, it is a blank check for her policy.

That doesn’t mean Ryan is our choice. He is worse than Boehner.
