Could be an outlier; we don't know.

We'll know next Tuesday (Ryno primary).

you can't possibly predict or poll it..

What it mainly comes down to is the observation of Upton Sinclair: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"

This race really wasn’t so cut and dry. Huelskamp would not normally be considered part of the ‘establishment’...and, in fact, Marshall campaigned on this - pointing out that Huelskamp was kicked of the Agriculture Committee, for not ‘going along’.

At the same time, Marshall’s campaign was being funded by...the establishment...ie the chamber of commerce.

If it weren’t for Huelskamp pronouncing himself as a nevertrumper, the story of this election would be of a ‘moderate conservative’ Marshall beating a conservative Tea Party incumbent. And honestly, after suffering through several hundred ads in this race, I don’t remember Trump being brought up even once.

Kansas politics are strange...a constant tug of war between ‘conservstive’ and ‘moderate’ republicans. Ten conservative republicans at the state level got primaried yesterday - so the pendulum has swung (due to our governor’s current unpopularity). It’ll swing back again.

I have to admit, I’ve heard two different takes on this.

One is that presented in this thread, that Huelskamp lost because he was a never Trumper feeling the wrath of the voters.

The other is that he was a Tea Partier who couldn’t get along with people in Washington, and who was flooded by a bunch of out of state and chamber of commerce money.

Might have been a little of both.

Proof that Trump doesn’t need conservatives to win. He should focus on the moderates, who are fed up with the excesses of Obama.

First of many. All that noise you hear? Death throes.

re: this:

Huelskamp, who was a rabidly anti-Trump incumbent (many thought of him as a Tea Party Republican)

Tea Party, we can now safely say, was a HOAX. A CON. A SCAM. A PLOY. A RUSE. MARKETING.

Karl Rove is part of the ESTABLISHMENT, we no longer hang on to every word he says, we listen to see how far off track he is. He is on the back row now, Trump and Party will not share with Rove.

Note ot the establishment elitist snobs. We have been told so many times in recent elections to suck it up and just vote for your guy, well guess what, it is your time to suck it up and stop your baby tantrums.
The people have voted so get used to it.

There haven't enough of these primaries to know so we can't draw any conclusions from it, but it does raise eyebrows out there within the elite circles of the elite.

A few more of these and the raised eyebrows will advance to some soiled underwear.

We, the people, have been communicating to a deaf Republican establishment our expectations and desires for decades now. After refusing to listen to us for so long, the establishment should not be surprised that support for a man who DOES listen to us is so strong.

Ironically, the establishment seems to have turned against us because they thought they would get more power that way. Yet, if they had listened to us, they would have had as much power and influence as they could want. But they wouldn’t listen, and we no longer want them.

He’s not a never Trump, he endorsed Trump last month.

The winner is a RINO who will serve Kansas poorly. This was part of a jihad against conservatives by Kansas RINOs, it has nothing to do with Trump. Horrible horrible result.
