The VA's Luxury Art Obsession

In the now-infamous VA scandal of 2012-2015, the nation was appalled to learn that 1,000 veterans died while waiting to see a doctor. Tragically, many calls to the suicide assistance hotline were answered by voicemail. The health claim appeals process was known as “the hamster wheel” and the appointment books were cooked in seven of every ten clinics.

Yet, in the midst of these horrific failings the VA managed to spend $20 million on high-end art over the last ten years – with $16 million spent during the Obama years.

A joint investigation by COX Media Washington, D.C. and our organization, http://www.openthebooks.com/ found that the VA bought Christmas trees priced like cars and sculptures that cost more than five-bedroom homes. Then, there’s the two sculptures – with a price tag of $670,000 – for a VA center serving veterans who are blind.

It’s the Potemkin village thang. Make it look like it’s so substantial, while being a veneered front.

Kill the veterens. They are a repubbie constituency and vote republican.

Pay the artists and intelligentsia. They are a democrat/liberal/communist constituency and donate to the democrats.

Follow the money trail. Who are the artists? Who are they related to? What political party do they support?

Kickbacks are the most satisfying part of government service.

Art doesn’t really have a price so it is a perfect vehicle for fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and best of all kickbacks.

So don’t complain about the fine art. It serves a higher purpose than you may have realized./s

Great. The VA murders elderly Veterans through neglect (and worse). Then they spend tens of millions of taxpayer money on “art”. What traitors. What idiots. What complete moron criminals.
