PHILADELPHIA — As Cory Booker left a room full of Iowa Democrats, shaking hands and snapping selfies as he went, a man approached him and declared, “I hope to work for you in 2024!”
During this week’s Democratic National Convention, Booker has helped his already-rising political star among Democrats, including from first-in-the-nation voting Iowa.
The U.S. senator from New Jersey gave a well-received address to the convention earlier this week. On Wednesday morning he was similarly well received when he spoke to Iowa Democrats.
Booker burst on the national scene years ago, first as mayor of Newark and then in the Senate. He was mentioned as a possible running mate for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Booker is far better a candidate that Obama ever was. He was a top contender the moment I saw him. Surprised they didn’t give him a major role this convention.
I dropped his name as a threat to a friend in Washington and he laughed. This guy is well connected and I was surprised. I don’t know if there is something in his background that will be a problem or what. He’s much more likable than those weirdo twins from San Antonio.

We all should've visited Chicago before we judged Obama. Actually we did, but McCain told us we had nothing to fear.
When all is said and done with Obama’s terms in office, I think that selling the voters on another smooth-talking black candidate for president will be difficult.
