A CONVENTION OF CHOICES

What kind of political party forgets the American flag?

Seriously.

How can you gather to nominate a candidate for president of the United States, in the city of our nation’s birth, and forget the American flag?

I’m talking about the Democratic National Convention. On Monday, as Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren spoke, as amnesty for illegal aliens was demanded, there was no American flag.

As Cory Booker quoted the words of the Pledge of Allegiance, it took Republicans watching at home to notice – and care – that the symbol of our Union and nation was absent.

It’s in every classroom in America, outside every post office, atop every veteran’s casket, and on every police officer’s uniform – but it wasn’t at the Democratic National Convention.

That tells you something.

It was midday Tuesday – after a flurry of social media criticism – before the Democrats brought out the flags, a half dozen on each side of the dais, to set things right.

Just in time for piss-on-the-cops night.

On Tuesday night, scattered through the worship of the candidate, was a heaping helping of standard-issue Democrat cop hating. Coordinated with a whites-to-the-back Black Lives Matter march in Philadelphia, a former attorney general joined the chorus of “systemic racism” and complained about “over incarceration.”

Which is odd.

When the black attorney general of a black president – who was replaced by another black attorney general – complains that America is endemically and systematically racist, that it’s most fundamental and pervasive institutions exist to subjugate black people, you have to wonder. You have to wonder how such a racist society put so many black people in positions of power, and why those black people in those positions of power administering all those racist institutions didn’t fix them.

You also have to wonder about the notion of “over incarceration.”

Isn’t the issue really “over criminality?”

Don’t you end up in prison because you broke the law? Aren’t you in prison because of your own choice and conduct? Do they really arrest, convict and imprison people for being black?

If too many people are in prison – of any stripe – wouldn’t the way to reduce that be to encourage those people to commit less crime?

And shouldn’t a guy who used to be the nation’s top law-enforcement officer know that?

On the day that a mother and her four children wept inconsolably at the funeral of their murdered policeman, on that day, the Democratic National Convention chose the cops-are-thugs side of a national debate. The Republicans spoke of law and order and support the police, and the Democrats spoke of racist cops targeting black people.

You may want to remember that when you vote in November.

If you think obeying the law and supporting the police are important, you’re a Republican. If you think America is a racist nation that uses a police army to impose its will, you’re a Democrat.

For days, the Philadelphia police union has called on Democrat convention organizers to recognize the families of slain police officers the same way it is recognizing the families of those killed in confrontations with the police. The Democrats have ignored those pleas, their silence being a giant eff-you to every cop in America.

That’s what that party stands for, and that’s who it attracts to itself. It’s coalition of the aggrieved isn’t based in logic or decency, it is based in selfishness and bias, and that has become undeniable.

Hillary Clinton can’t court the votes of cop haters while pretending to stand with first responders – or law-abiding Americans.

There are differences between the parties, and some of them are fundamental.

We’ve seen that thus far in this Democratic National Convention.

If you remember the American flag, vote Republican.

If you forget the American flag, vote Democrat.

It won’t matter. The 2012 DNC booed God, and its candidate won.

I don’t think the 2016 candidate will win, but it won’t be for a lack of the flag, but because she is perceived by enough of the voting public as something that, to be discreet, rhymes with flag.

GIANT WHOOPSIE!! But there was an abundance of flags present the second day. A bit of overkill methinks.

Democrats are hateful - maybe American flags were distributed to ‘protest groups’ outside so they’d have something to burn.

The WikiLeaks emails tell us that the Clinton campaign is calling all the shots at the DNC.

So it was Clinton's incompetence that saw to it that no American flags would be displayed.

I'll bet they are eager to display the Black Lives Matter flag, the LGBT flag, and the United Nations flag.

Ditto Iran, North Korea, and PLO. ISIS would be a bridge too far, even for them.
