Turkish newspaper names US general as ‘leader’ of failed coup attempt

TURKEY’S former anti-terrorism chief has warned that an article accusing a US general of orchestrating the failed coup represents a serious threat to US citizens.

Turkey, which has declared a three-month state of emergency after a failed coup attempt on July 15, admits to having detained more than 13,000 people in the military, judiciary and other institutions.

The wave of arrests, possibly much higher than the official figure, has alarmed NATO allies and European leaders with fears the moves represent an attempt by Turkey’s controversial President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to cement his hold on power and remove all forms of opposition.

Turkish officials insist that the purge of all levels of society is necessary to protect its democracy from threats both within and without.

And it seems it believes the United States is one such threat.

ESCALATING OUTRAGE

Professor Ahmet Yayla, Former Chief of Counter-terrorism for the Turkish National Police and a member of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism, has pointed to today’s front page of a pro-Erdogan newspaper as a major and dangerous escalation in rhetoric.

The Yeni Safak newspaper appeared on news stands today with the headline “This man led the coup”, accusing United States Army General J.F. Campbell of commanding the uprising a little more than a week ago.

There is a rumor floating around (have read it in numerous sources--some questionable) that the "coup" was a CIA operation.

And this is moving Turkey to closer relations with Russia.

BTW, General Campbell is retired from active duty.

And this is moving Turkey to closer relations with Russia. ................... The only reason Turkey was our Ally was because of Russia. Sounds like an attempt to bring in an outsider scapegoat.

I certainly hope open Trump's eyes as to the reality of Erdoğan. His statements did not bode well for him, and he cannot afford misstatements like he did. I would like to see him make new statements that reflect the realities of Erdogan.

And to Iran as well.

There is also a report from Fars that it were the Russians who intercepted the communications between the coup leaders (from the facilities in Syria) and gave Erdogan the warning. This may be accurate given the way Turkey thanked Russia for extra support during the coup.

This is the first reputable source for this issue of potential U.S. involvement in the “coup”...and it is owned by Rubert Murdoch and News Corp Australia.

There were Twitter reports yesterday of a huge wild fire approaching our base in Turkey. And implications that it may have been deliberately set. I haven’t been able to find a major news source report this yet.

Trump starts getting his national security briefings this week, so he will come up to speed quickly on Turkey and the rest of the world.

The fire is at a different NATO base...at Izmir on the western coast of Turkey. Incirlik AFB is in Adana in SE Turkey.

I’m not sure I’d trust the national security briefings coming from this administration.

Do not get me wrong, I am a very strong supporter of Trump, but I find it a little troubling that even someone like me can recognize what Erdogan is yet he misspeaks. But then again I do no have my head somewhere else right now either, like he surely must. I do not fault him, but I think he must restate his position, and quickly.

It is interesting.

Last year in December I believe, Trump said Turkey was on the side of Isis.

The first Trump Towers this side of the pond have been built under license from Donald Trump, and Erdogan wants the Trump name removed:

In June 2016, Turkish President Erdogan has been reported to call for the removal of the Trump name from the towers, saying “[Trump] has no tolerance for Muslims living in the US. And on top of that they used a brand in [Istanbul] with his name. The ones who put that brand on their building should immediately remove it.”

As substantiated by its abject failure.

"As substantiated by its abject failure."

After Jimmy Carter disbanded the CIA and rebuilt them in his own image, they've been known throughout the intelligence gathering community as the Clowns In Action.

I’m sorry but reputable source and Rubert Murdoch should never be in the same sentence or paragraph.

BTW, the ultimate source for this story is Yeni Safak, an Erdogan-controlled Turkish paper.

After following it for a while, I have come to the conclusion it was fabricated by Erdogan to provide cover for his false flag "coup."
