Violent crime in Los Angeles increased by nearly 16 percent during the first half of this year compared with the same period a year ago, authorities said Friday.
Statistics released Friday by the Los Angeles Police Department also showed an increase in property crimes by 3.8 percent, and a 6.3 percent hike in overall crime in the past 12 months.
The number of homicides rose by 3.1 percent, from 130 to 134; and the number of shooting victims rose by 1.3 percent, from 537 to 544. The year to date figures covered the period from Jan. 1 through July 16.
The statistics were released at a news conference at police headquarters conducted by LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Also released Friday were results of a survey of a sampling of about 2,000 Los Angeles residents that measured their perceptions of safety and fear of crime and other feelings about police-related topics.

Gov. Brown should be required to have all of these “lifers” go live in his neighborhood. Ofc they would probably leave him alone, since he is their benefactor, but he should have to think about them and maybe be nervous every day.

My best friend, old Army friend retired from L.A.P.D. as Captain quite awhile ago now. I sent this to him with a note I was glad he’s outta there. I’m certain he’ll tell me he doesn’t want to hear about that place ever again. I know he hated Los Angeles every bit as much as I.
Garcetti is a shadow of his old man.. LA is a cauldron of corruption, deceit and treachery.. bubbling..
Hmmm, I wonder what LA and Chicago and Detroit and Baltimore and New Orleans and Philadelphia and St. Louis all have in common so we could solve these crime waves, Hmmm.
