Unless a base is is diplomatic grounds, it is not sovereign US territory and is owned by the host country.

By treaty we are allowed to be based there and fly operations, but we do not “own” the base.

Heck, our bases in the UK are not owned by the US, and the bases have a UK flag flying on base and has a senior ranking Brit as the “commander” (though he cannot order US troops or missions). He is there as part of presence to demonstrate UK ownership.

In exchange for the release of the hostages the Iran’s demanded the return of the Shah.

In exchange for the release of the hostages the Turk’s demanded the return of Gulen.

It will be convenient...print media can just to word substitution and rehash their archive articles.

"These bombs are "protected" by Turkish troops and to some degree their potential use is shared with the Turkish Air Force. "

This is the first intent to deceive and create an incident where there is none.

Those weapons are protected by US personnel, exclusively.

The BASE is protect by the Turkish government.

IF those weapons were in imminent danger we would already be at Defcon One.

I’ve yet to find a definitive answer to the question are there US nukes at Incirlik?

Many posters have repeated over different threads that the nukes were removed years ago yet the recent articles state that are around 50 or so variable yield bombs on the base.

So, are these articles hype or is it true that we do have nukes cashed there?

under a normal admin, this would justify the use of a B2 wreath to take out the ordinance. Might lose troops in the collateral, but better than letting them get in the wrong hands or allowing the entire situation to be used as blackmail.

Any innovative scenarios where these could be used in a pre-planned nuclear world war 3?

The decision to leave these weapons in Incirlik and the minimal security could well be a means for Obama to provide an option to help Erdogan’s grand caliphate plans and sow more chaos in the Middle East while providing Obama with plausible deniability.

It's way past the time for the US to get our troops, gear and nukes out of Turkey.

Turkey under Erdogan is well on it's way to becoming the next Iran - maybe worse.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan; President of Turkey:

“The minarets are our bayonets, the domes our helmets, the mosques our barracks and the faithful our army.”

"Islam is Islam. Democracy is the train we ride to our ultimate victory."

They should have been gone more than 10 years ago. When Turkey wouldn’t support us on the Iraq invasion, Dubya should have pulled them out.

It takes 45 minutes to get a nuke to the ME via an ICBM. There is NO REASON to keep nukes in the ME - it’s only a question of time before some ME crazy steals one - or all of ‘em.

Stop the madness - bring all nukes home.

I can't imagine an American Administration would be stupid (or wicked) enough to let 50 H-Bombs fall into the hands of an Islamic Caliphate.

Oh, wait...

bombs are "protected" by Turkish troops and to some degree their potential use is shared with the Turkish Air Force.

This is incorrect. WSAs are AF Pax only, along with NNSA/OST sometimes and civilian technicians from Pantex plant occasionally. I have NEVER seen anyone inside a WSA, foreign soil or not without a TS/SCI from DoD or a Q clearance from DOE. Never.

I hope this is incorrect. If Turks are inside the WSA, NNSA/OST would mow them down if they tried anything. That is a high-speed dedicated bunch. I'd rather piss off a bar full of Navy SEALs than mess with OST inside a WSA.
