In a decree, President Nicolas Maduro has ordered the army to monitor food processing plants, and co-ordinate the production and distribution of items. Venezuela is going through a deep economic crisis despite having the world's largest oil reserves.

I think what Maduro should do is this: Give a carefully scripted, nationally televised speech before a crowd in the main square in Caracas.

Bus in thousands of workers, under thread of being fired. Give them all red flags, banners and large pictures of Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

The crowd should total up to 80,000 and be given orders on where to stand, when to applaud and what to sing. The front rows of the assembly full of low-level Party officials and members, to act as cheerleaders. Immediately before them would be plainclothes Securitate agents and a row of police militia, to keep the mass of the crowd about thirty meters back from the front of the Central Committee building.

At just the right moment, Maduro and his wife would appear on the balcony to give his speech.

For millennials, Venezuela would seem the most accessible means of understanding the risks of socialism, communism and dictatorships. If it wasn’t bizarro world in America, it would be a learning opportunity within our schools that reinforces what makes America different and better.

Can’t remember the Freeper who recommended ‘The Wilder Shores of Marx’ some years back, but I’d echo the recommendation today. Excellent view from the perspective of citizens, and what they deal with North Korea, Cuba, Romania, Liberia, etc.

If anyone has a bookmarked article for Bernie voters that is basic and explains how the Venezuela govt is 3-pronged like our own and explains in simple language the diff between socialism vs capitalism, please post it.

I’ve looked periodically off and on, but can’t find a primer-type article that is written by anyone NOT on the right. (I.e. Too easily rationalized away by Berners as “biased.”)

I’m not asking anyone to search for me, just if you already have something handy I could check out.
