Even if Donald Trump does not pick Newt Gingrich as his running mate, the former U.S. House Speaker may still have a job in the billionaire's administration.
Trump is considering picking Gingrich for a top national security post should he be elected president, according to two people familiar with the the candidate's thinking.
A longtime backer of Trump's campaign, Gingrich was added to the short list of vice presidential candidates in May. While Trump could still ask Gingrich to join the ticket, his focus has narrowed in recent days to Indiana Governor Mike Pence and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, the Washington Post reported on Monday.
A national-security role in a potential Trump administration could be a good fit for Gingrich. He holds a doctorate in European history and is known for his intellectual curiosity. In Congress, he immersed himself in military affairs and intelligence issues, and in 2001 he was named by then-President George W. Bush to serve as a member of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. Like Trump, Gingrich is a staunch critic of the the U.S. nuclear deal with Iran.

Trump does seem to put a great deal of thought into what he is doing.
I don’t care either way. Gingrich will make himself useful in whatever capacity.
People want Trump. The media will try to destroy Trump. The Dems will be counting the votes, rioting, and mucking things up in court.
But I expect Trump’s victory will be big enough to preclude even the unprecedented shenanigans to come.
Sounds good, I trust Trump’s judgement.
Gingrich is fine. Trump can keep him on a short leash. He’d do well in just about any capacity.
I’d like to a real “in your face” name for press secretary. To me this where someone like Sarah Palin would fit. In my dreams it would be someone who is absolutely hated by the leftist establishment press
Alternatively, abolish the post and just post answers to questions on the White House website. cut the press out of the loop
What ever your opinion is of Trump, nobody can deny he is a successful businessman. Every successful businessman I know has surrounded himself with the best people he can afford. Not yes men. That is my hope for his administration.

I would much rather see Gingrich as the VP...and shuffle that abortion-supporting democrat Flynn off as the Sec Def, if we must have him in a republican cabinet.
Actually, I'd just as soon see him (Flynn) dropped from consideration for dog-catcher, truth be known.

I have no idea exactly who is promoting this propaganda to get the meme that Gingrich is not really being considered for VP - BUT it is very transparent that it must be another Pence promoter. Pence promoters are likely a gaggle of Elitist Republican Establishment RINOs who want to inject a NO BODY into the Trump Ticket. Pence can bring NOTHING positive to the ticket and everything negative. Pence is a lackluster has been that never was. Pence stupidly carried the Amnesty Ball for GW Bush back in 2007. Of all the positive things Trump has brought to the campaign - PENCE would be a BIG NEGATIVE - Pence would deflate voter enthusiasm... On the other hand Gingrich has a way with words. Trump needs a policy formulator and explainer. Newt as VP would be a NET POSITIVE asset to the Trump Campaign ...
Trump told the AP I think today that there were four contenders he really liked, presumably Pence, Gingrich, Christie and Flynn...or another totally out of left field.
Yeah, I think the reference I saw was to five.
Flynn might be out of contention after his abortion mess but I hope not.
