I read on one of the threads that he trained at a local combat school, whatever that means.. maybe someone else remembers it and can point us to it.

Everybody gets trained on using an M16, no matter what MOS they have. To gun down cops from rooftops does not require great military training...it requires instead great moral defect. What he did was not an example of being bad ass, it was a sign of being the lowest of the low.
I would be surprised if plans for the BLM protest was not common knowledge anybody could have found out about before it happened, likely by just checking out pro-BLM Facebook pages and blogs and such.
Its time for us to denounce the racial divisions pushed by the left, including BLM and even our President, and lets let police detectives figure out if he had help or was acting alone.

The sniper was much more than a carpenter. While his MOS was 12W which is a carpentry and masonry specialist, this is a combat engineer MOS. His unit was the 284th Combat Engineer Company. All this means he was trained not only as a carpentry and masonry specialist but in combat techniques as well.
His weapon had a red dot sight meaning it was fairly capable of accurately shooting in low light conditions.
How did he know about the BLM protest? The same way all those protesters knew about it. It wasn’t a secret. It wasn’t spontaneous. It widely advertised. The Dallas Police Department participated in the planning.

On Saturday, the Associated Press reported that Johnson, an Army veteran who served a truncated tour in Afghanistan, received training from a private self-defense school that teaches firearm tactics, including "shooting on the move."A person who said he was in charge of the organization told AP that Johnson received instruction at the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts in the Dallas suburb of Richardson about two years ago. The man refused to answer additional questions and would not give his name.
The academy website refers to one of its courses as a "tactical applications program," or TAP.
