WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is poised to announce new rules allowing transgender individuals to serve openly in the U.S. military, amid concerns from senior military leaders who believe the department is moving too fast and has yet to resolve many details, U.S. officials told The Associated Press.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter is expected to announce the new policy this week, nearly a year after announcing his intention to make the change. The move would end one of the last bans on service in the military.
Several senior U.S. officials, however, said that while the chiefs of the military services largely back the change, they sought more time to fully develop and implement the complex new rules.
According to officials, the service chiefs asked Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to relay their concerns to Carter. A senior U.S. official told the AP that Carter met this week with his military leaders, heard their concerns, and has adjusted the timeline.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss policy decisions before they were made public.
Under the new policy, transgender individuals will be allowed to enlist in the military, and those already serving can no longer be forced to leave based on their gender identity.
Officials familiar with the new plan said people with gender dysphoria, a history of medical treatments associated with gender transition and those who have had reconstruction surgery may be disqualified as military recruits unless a medical provider certifies that they have been clinically stable in the preferred gender for 18 months, and are free of significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas. 'Also, transgender troops receiving hormone therapy must have been stable on the medication for 18 months

Why was it, that to allow openly homosexual people in the military, required an act of Congress? But changing to allow “transsexual” or “transgender” people, only requires a decree from Obama or the Defense Secretary, to allow these people openly in the military??
What changed? ? Do we just have no standards for the military, so that any president or defense secretary can rule by decree??
If for no other reason, Donald Trump needs to be elected President to stop this insanity from destroying our armed forces.
After eight years of 0bama and four more of Clinton, I doubt our military would be able to conduct any defense of the United States. Which is the plan, of course.

As far as Congress allowing women in front line combat, Congress reneged on their resposibility and allowed Obama to ruin the Armed Forces with his decree.
