RENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) More smart guns would be sold in New Jersey under a measure that cleared the state Assembly Monday.
As WCBS 880s Kelly Waldron reported, the measure would create a roster of so-called smart guns, which can only be fired by authorized users, available for sale.
The bill would also require most New Jersey gun retailers to carry a couple of smart guns in their stores.

gee, I wonder who’ll be cashing in on these...
When cops trust their lives to battery-powered guns...
...I’ll still carry “Old Faithful”.
Why can’t they just let the consumer’s decide?
No problem. Police and military/national guard test them for a year or two. No problems, do it widespread, but they go first.
Because they think they’re our betters, and it’s their nature to meddle.
Naive question I guess, but can’t they be hacked somehow?
Nobody wants them.
Since NJ is a communist state, next they will only let you buy “smart” guns, if they let you buy any at all.
No. No experiments with the military.
The personal body guards of these losers should be the ones to carry them along with the security who guards their capitol.
As the guns gain more intelligence....they will become self aware......
Soon, they will turn on their owners....
I see it coming. Declare all “Smart” Guns legal to sell, once being sold declare all regular guns as contraband and confiscated.
The Secret Service too. Especially those guarding Hitlery and Obungo...
“Why cant they just let the consumers decide?”
You want New Jersey to endorse FREEDOM???? What are you, some sort of racist???
[/s]
When will O’holeobamo issue a federal decree that every cop in America, including the tens of thousands of federal cops must equip with a ‘smart gun’ or they cannot carry?
...Why cant they just let the consumers decide?...
Because fringe liberal lunatic liberals don’t think that way. It’s their way or nothing.
cant they be hacked somehow?
= = =
If they get any AI, then they WILL start shooting all by themselves.
“... When will...”
About 20 seconds after he “decrees” that his own bodyguards must carry battery-powered guns too... and they’ll be powered by Solyndra solar cells....
I was thinking along the lines of the governor’s security detail and the legislature’s security force using them for a year or two. Just to work out any bugs, you understand. :=)
Fact is that after 14 years and who knows how much money NJ and the DOJ have funneled to NJIT, the government appointed spearhead, NJIT h wasas yet to create a viable market ready "SmartGun" design.
Additionally, the political rush to move legislation mandating "SmartGun" sales has , surprise, unintended consequences. Read more from the NRA 2012:

....Basically, the Childproof Handgun Law of 2002 says that once "personalized handguns are available" anywhere in the country, all handguns sold in New Jersey must be smart guns within 30 months.
The goal of the law was to spur "research, development and manufacture" of smart guns, according to its sponsor, New Jersey state Sen. Loretta Weinberg. But in practice, supporters and critics of the law now agree, that has not been the case.
"It actually doesn't matter if the gun has been sold," says David Kopel, a policy analyst at the Cato Institute. "If there's just one available for sale anywhere in the United States, then that triggers the handgun ban.
