Jeremy Corbyn has lost a vote of no confidence in his leadership (172 votes to 40) but is expected to battle on to force a contest in which Angela Eagle or Tom Watson is likely to be the rival candidate.

Well the queen still reigns.
Pray she lives as long as her mom.
Labour has toppled its leader less than a year after the last one was forced to resign in the wake of a devastating election defeat.
And many in Labour are riled by Corbyn’s lukewarm support of the EU.
The same thing will happen here if Trump wins.
Both parties will open circular firing squads and let the backbiting recriminations fly.
I’m an interested observer of British politics. It’s hard to imagine the chutzpah necessary for a leader to lose a party confidence vote by 172 to 40 (81% of your party’s MP’s want you out) and not just resign. Corbyn is a true Leninist. They never leave voluntarily.
Of course not, that would be knuckling under to a [shudder] referendum and will of the people.
Can he really get away with not leaving???? Weird!
I wouldn't have voted for him in the first place, but since they voted for him, I don't see a reason they should withdraw support now.
They’re just upset at Corbyn because he shows the true face of what Labour stands for.
Actually they didn't. Previously the PLP elected its leader. (Presumably on the basis the Her Madge asks the question: Do you have enough support in the House to form a government?)
But under the New Rules (because it's 2015) the Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition is elected by any Briton who pays (or is paid for) 3 Pounds Sterling to become a Labour Party "supporter".
"I must follow that mob, I am their Leader"
Liberals never resign.
