Trump rally: Why did San Jose pick South Hall dome — the “dog”?

Mayor Sam Liccardo has called South Hall, the city convention center’s oversized blue-striped tent in the heart of downtown, a “dog.” Liccardo also is a loyal Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter. When Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump came to town for a campaign rally, did that factor into the city offering up the eyesore to Trump? That doesn’t appear to be the case. Dave Costain, chief operating officer of Team San Jose, the nonprofit that runs the city-owned McEnery Convention Center, was reluctant to discuss the event booking, citing a confidentiality agreement. But he eventually offered this: “South Hall was the only facility with sufficient space to meet the Trump organization’s requests and that was available on the date and at the time requested.”

san jose likes to think of itself as being in at a level with a major city such as its nearest rival, san francisco. perennially, it fails in this, and has failed in this for decades. trump always stays late for signing autographs. san jose police had no backup plan for this other to dump responsibility to trump and members of the public who attended the rally. the fact remains that san jose police lost control of the situation and for whatever reasons failed to protect the public. san jose police: paid to be stupid. san jose mayor: paid to be bigoted.

"And although the city had two days to prepare for the rally, it appears communication was lacking. The Trump campaign reached out to Team San Jose on May 27 — nearly a week before the June 2 rally. Team San Jose officials contacted Liccardo. But City Manager Norberto Dueñas didn’t hear from either of them, and Chief Garcia had no input on where to put Trump."

IOW, woopsie! we goofed...

OTOH they could hold a Hillary rally in a phone booth or better yet, a jail cell.

Does anyone else notice the jarring contradiction between the start and the end of the article referring to (imho biased or negligent or both) Mayor Sam Liccardo??

This is a permanent tent. It is quite cavernous, although not Moffett Field Hangar One USS Macon cavernous.

It is used for a variety of things, including orchestral rehearsals.

Understood.

But it's not as if San Jose couldn't have afforded a real building.

This looks like someone took a surplus Quonset hut and painted it like Hillary Clinton's old 1960's circus pants!
