I think we are about to have the most serious constitutional crisis since the Abdicaton of King Edward VIII. I supposed we had better try to enjoy it.
If-as I think we will-we vote to leave the EU on June 23, a democratically elected Parliament, which wants to stay, will confront a force as great as itself-a national vote, equally democratic, which wants to quit. Are we about to find out what actually happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?
I am genuinely unsure how this will work out. I hope it will only destroy our two dead political parties, stiffened corpses that have long propped each other up with the aid of BBC endorsement and ill-gotten money.
I was wrong to think that the EU referendum would be so hopelessly rigged that the campaign for independence was doomed to lose.......
I underestimated the BBC, which has. perhaps thanks to years of justified and correct criticism from people such as me, taken its duty of impartiality seriously.
Everything I hear now suggests that the votes for Leave are piling up, while the Remain cause is faltering and floundering. The betrayed supporters of both major parties now feel free to take revenge on their smug and arrogant leaders.
It has been a mystery to me that these voters stayed loyal to organizations that repeatedly spat on them from a great height. Labour doesn't love the poor. It loves the London elite. The Tories don't love the country. They love only money...... We can all vote against the heedless, arrogant snobs who inflicted mass immigration on the poor (while making sure they lived far from its consequences themselves).........

Great commentary on the Uniparty political system of the UK, so similar to our D and R farce.
Great commentary on the scourge of mass immigration inflicted on the people of the UK by their political and business elites.
Great optimism that a vote to leave the EU on June 23rd will be successful for those wanting to get the UK out of the EU.
Perhaps the "Trump Wave" is rippling across the Atlantic.
Peter Hitchens does not express support for Trump, in fact a disdain in the paragraphs below my excerpt, but perhaps he should reconsider.
There is a very interesting cultural relationship between the USA and the UK.
They get Thatcher — we get Reagan.
We get Trump — they leave the EU.
Things that might merely seem like “good ideas” begin to seem “actionable” when the other country is going in the same direction.
for later
hmmm..... pass ports and visas and standards for steel and pumps and electric motors. Travel border check points
chaos
If this snowballs, Cameron will be forced to dissolve parliament and have new elections. Can you da PM Nigel Farage. He he he. Good for the UK.
“...stiffened corpses.”
Same as over here.
Memo to Hitchens: Get used to the “ruling class”, aka elected officials, overturning the will of the people. They do it all the time here (think Obamacare). If the ruling class doesn’t get their way, they punt the decision to their cronies in the court system. No way can citizens be permitted to chart their own course.
Wow.
“No way can citizens be permitted to chart their own course.”
Well, perhaps they can but they have to have the will and the ability to do it. Think back to 1776.
Quote:
“No way can citizens be permitted to chart their own course.”
Yep. Here in the “Land of the Free - Home of the Brave” the assault on Trump and his supporters is going to be from every direction and from all our institutions. The voice of the people must be squelched at all costs.
June 23 will become Independence Day! (Hopefully)
I have a lot of English and Scots blood, and lots of living relatives and friends in the UK. We don’t really talk politics much, so I don’t know where most of them stand on this.
I have the warmest of international affections for the UK. If they shuck off the yoke of unaccountable, faceless Brussels internationalist bureaucracy and once again go it alone, I will be as proud as I can possibly be.
Yeah, OK, great...Hitchens the Britisher comes out of nowhere and writes a few good paragraphs that states the obvious to anyone who isn’t totally and ignorantly lame that the EU is bad, bad, bad. Then, in the very next section, he writes this drivel:
“Mr Trumps rallies increasingly attract violence by his opponents and his supporters. I actually find this terrifying. Any fool can start civil unrest and fan a populist bonfire by saying what he thinks the masses want to hear. But it is far harder to restore calm. I gasp at Mr Trumps irresponsibility, and fear for the USA.”
Thus, this confused idiot thereby destroys any credibility he may have had based on his sensible remarks and shows, utterly, that, in the end, his judgment is questionable and unreliable.
Regarding this very point, I could completely get behind a Trump HUD changing directions and installing section 8 housing in Martha’s Vineyard, Kennebunkport, Georgetown, next door to the obam’ final residence, and every tony neighborhood in liberaldom. They have inflicted their idiocy on the masses while hiding in expensive, exclusive neighborhoods.
Chaos for the Brit upper class....a flat on their
BMW and a mooslim family of 8 moving within
2 miles of their polo grounds

Wow.
Double wow. Sums up our situation as well...2 ruling classes of cultural elites...
Agree on the elites inflicting things on us that they’d never accept themselves. I don’t know how people who participate in this process sleep at night.
Side note: How is the Schatzi toy company doing? :-)
I so badly want to see the Hair Summit where Donald meets Boris.
England should harken back to its history of Warrior Queen Boethicka; Queen Elizabeth I; and Winston Churchill in opposing the EU and the Islamic hordes that are destroying Britain from within.
There definitely appears to be linkage between what is happening here and what is happening over there in the Mother Country.
