Probably when Barry M. Goldwater, Richard M. Nixon, and John G. Tower were endorsing abortion, they had no idea it would become a big business. They probably thought that American women would be responsible.
Might have bought into the “safe legal and rare” schtick... but one immediate problem was that they didn’t see the pent up potential demand.
The dam might have burst anyhow of its own weakness not all that much later, however.
This is all tied up in one large interrelated area of family morality, sexual morality, and reproductive morality.
And this was suffering long before abortion became the new freedom du jour.
